I am loathe to post the following because people who opine on abortion do so by taking their talking point from either left media, or worse, right media.
Moreover, most who are against abortion are not against it for any "moral" reasons but because liberals support abortion and that is enough to be against it.

I've said some states are socially backwards on the issue of abotions. Not surprisingly, some of those states also supported slavery back in the day. Not a great track record in regards to social progress and individual rights/autonomy.

Additionally, the stringency of the application of "abortion laws" varies with economic status. The 16 year old whose parents can afford to send her off to a "health spa" for a two week stretch is much more likely to be able to obtain a safe abortion than is the 16 year old who is on welfare.

The legislators who pass these anti-abortion laws know all the statistics concerning who is effected and how they are effected. The laws are aimed directly at forcing the poor to produce children. The same is true for laws restricting access to highly effective contraceptives that women control.

First and foremost WOMEN support abortion, it is just a fact that Liberals tend to be more supportive of women than Conservatives are.
