More Guns, Less Violent Crime as the Bad Guys Run or Die - US News and World Report
I will not drown, nor will I drink and drive, chainsaw-massacre anyone, stumble, slice, burn, or shoot myself, nor will I ever hold up a bank. So the best advice would be to think, improvise, adapt, and overcome, man up, but by all means, leave me the hell alone. You don't ban electric guitars just because someone may have a lapse in logic, goodwill, and decency and spontaneously break out into country and western music. The vast majority of sensible people will use electric guitars as God intended and whip out good, sexy rock-n-roll licks.
I need my water, cars, trucks, chainsaws, knives, crowbars, blowtorches, and guns. I have mastered them all; they are all wonderful ingredients for my American Dream of rugged individualism, declared independence, and self-sufficiency. They all serve me well, and I am not giving any of them up. Ever.
The masses must never be controlled for the sake of the lunatic fringe. Remember "Don't Tread on Me"? Don't.
It is indeed Ted Kennedy's gun ban dream of GunFreeZones that have proven to be the guaranteed slaughter zones where the most innocent lives are lost. Think Columbine, VA Tech, Lane Bryant, NW IL University, Luby's Cafeteria, NJ, Salt Lake City, and Omaha malls, Calgary University, Toronto, Chicago, Boston, Flight 93, the mayor's office in San Francisco, ad nauseam. Peace and love will get you killed, and unarmed helplessness is bad. Unless of course your anthem goes baaa..... baaa...... baaa.
As ya'll should know by now, I work for a University here in San Antonio. We recently had a big "debate" on campus about a proposal in the Texas Legislature to allow students and staff to carry concealed hand guns. The sentiment I have run into in my informal "So what do you think" has been almost the same:
"I would be really afraid, if I knew people had guns around me, that would make it more dangerous." or variations there of.
When I asked them: "What if there was a shooter on campus, ya know, Virginia Tech, Columbine style?" They believed the police are better able to save them, and another point made was along the lines of "If more people had guns, there would be more shootings on campus".
I tried asking one other question:
"How many mass shootings have there been in areas where the general population was armed? Why do you feel safe in gun free zones?"
Some understood my point, and others missed it completely.
Shooters love places where they are the only ones with the power, when your plan is to kill lots of people, getting shot the moment you fire your first round isn't very appealing.

As a non gun owner, I prefer being in a CC jurisdiction - I mean, people walk up to you and beg for change, you got to be a lot more of a sociopath to mug someone, don't get me wrong, but the steps involved are pretty much the same...
The problem I have with the argument pro-gunners put forward is that the police force in the UK has on several occasions been given the option of giving regular constables guns and each time has turned down the offer (instead relying on a special unit who are armed to deal with gun/knife crime).
The reason stated is that in arming themselves criminals will then arm and use fire-arms in retaliation and gun crime rates will rise.
Much of the polices work is actually working with criminals - not in the sense of aiding their crimes but in sharing a common understanding on certain crimes (believe it or not lol). As I understand it cases of mass shootings always involve mentally unstable people who should not of been able to get guns in the 1st place for their and everyone elses safety (correct me if i'm wrong).
I'm not especially pro or anti gun but the idea of everyone around me carrying a gun would just fill me with so much paranoia and mistrust.

When SD had a similar bill in debate, I began carrying a concealed rubber training pistol just to piss off my very ant-gun instructor.
I aced the class, btw...the instructor is on the wrong side on an issue but he kept his political opinions out of the grade book. I respect him a lot more for that.
