Moments after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s closely watched speech at the Jackson Hole symposium on Friday, President Donald Trump dramatically escalated his ongoing assault on the central bank’s leadership by threatening to fire governor Lisa Cook if she does not resign. The extraordinary move punctuated an already tense week for the central bank, as Trump has been criticizing Cook following allegations of mortgage fraud leveled by Bill Pulte, head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and a Trump appointee.

This is all it takes from the gop to start a so-called investigation into whatever they choose. A trump appointee makes a claim, trump then goes on to take that claim with no proof of its accuracy to start his attack on Ms. Cook.

As reported by CNBC, Trump made the threat on Friday, during an impromptu visit to the People’s House, a White House–focused educational museum. “What she did was bad,” he told reporters. “I’ll fire her if she doesn’t resign.”...and that's how the dirty shit starts from the gop to incite their base into fever pitch, like they are right now with cracker barrel. A non issue that the right is turning into a mountain.

Cook, who is the first Black woman on the Fed board, was accused by Pulte earlier in the week of falsifying property records to gain better loan terms, allegedly listing two primary residences—one in Ann Arbor and another in Atlanta. Pulte urged the Department of Justice to investigate, and Trump quickly seized on the allegations, amplifying his call for Cook’s resignation across social media and at public events. “Cook must resign, now!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Cook fired back in a public statement Wednesday, declaring, “I have no intention of being bullied to step down from my position because of some questions raised in a tweet,” and affirming her intent to cooperate fully with any legitimate inquiry. The Department of Justice has signaled that it will open a probe into the accusations, adding another layer of uncertainty to the Fed’s leadership and the ongoing political spectacle around the institution.

Interesting. Trump was convicted of falsifying property records to inflate the value of properties. CONVICTED.
New York v. Trump is a civil investigation and lawsuit by the office of the New York Attorney General alleging that individuals and business entities within the Trump Organization engaged in financial fraud by presenting vastly disparate property values to potential lenders and tax officials, in violation of New York Executive Law § 63(12). The defendants were Donald Trump, five other individuals including three of his children, and ten business entities including some that owned property in New York, Florida, and Chicago. After a trial that took place from October 2023 to January 2024, presiding judge Arthur Engoron ordered the defendants to disgorge a total of US$364 million of ill-gotten gains, among other penalties, but an appeals court in August 2025 voided this penalty.

I wonder if this is where TACO got the idea for the charge.

I don't think the Fed is scared of Convict TACO.

I think it will be fun watching what Trump does with job numbers after calling them fake and firing the head of the LSB . He needs a weak jobs number if he wants that rate cut. Now he is between a rock and a hard place , strong job numbers and no rate rate drop or poor job growth and an indication your tariffs are backfiring. Be careful what you ask for Trump ......you might just get it.

The president of the United States….one of the loudest and most powerful voices on the planet…who himself said he’s the chief law enforcement officer… is once again publicly declaring someone is guilty of a crime without their having due process…. or even caring that they haven’t had due process.

Same pattern for him that goes back years though, well before walking down those escalators.

.....and something he, his AG and FBI director did Friday to Bolton. A previous prosecutor with the DOJ, Elie Honig, said it was so unusual and so against protocols that it could actually end up with charges dismissed IF...big IF ....it ever goes to court. That's what you get when you hire an "F" team

Indeed

It’s what he and they actually do all the time, going back well before now.

He recently publicly declared that Obama is guilty of treason… literally publicly declared ‘guilty’…as are other former officials..without caring about any due process….based on the Tulsi/Patel/Bondi/etc cherry pickings, incomplete context, completely out of context, distortions, selective declassifications.

And cult45/47 slurps it all right up…without fail…loves every bit of it.

Ken Paxton, Texas’s Attorney General, claimed three houses as his primary residence, renting out two of them, and has also rented out at least two properties that he listed as vacation homes. Somehow, however, Pulte hasn’t highlighted his case, let alone threatened him with a 30-year prison sentence.

She’s been fired.

“The American people must be able to have the full confidence in the honesty of members entrusted with setting policy and…”

Well there’s the irony of the century.

He is really pushing it, not even trying to hide his intention to squash independent agencies....will responsible Americans .push back?

1. How? 2. His supporters don't fit that description.

President Trump said on Monday that he was taking the extraordinary step of removing Lisa Cook from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, in a legally dubious maneuver that could undermine the independence of the nation’s central bank.

Mr. Trump justified the firing, which he said was effective immediately, by pointing to allegations that Ms. Cook may have falsified records in order to obtain favorable terms on a mortgage, even though she has not been charged with wrongdoing or convicted of a crime....

Mr. Trump said the allegations of mortgage fraud undermined Ms. Cook, who was confirmed by the Senate in 2022. Claiming the matter had compromised her ability to perform as an effective financial regulator, Mr. Trump invoked a power in the Fed’s founding statute that allows him to fire members of the Fed board for cause....

...Many legal experts raised serious concerns late Monday with the manner of her dismissal, and the president’s justification for doing so, as they warned that Mr. Trump risked further eroding the independence of the central bank.

Peter Conti-Brown, a professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, said it would spell “the end of central bank independence as we know it” if Mr. Trump were to prevail, adding: “The president will run riot over the Federal Reserve by using the formidable resources of the U.S. government against our own central bank.”...

Under the Federal Reserve Act, the law that charters the central bank, Mr. Trump may dismiss a governor only if he can demonstrate cause, typically defined as professional neglect or malfeasance. In recent days, legal experts have questioned whether the president could satisfy that burden, given the fact that the allegations against Ms. Cook have not been proved in court and involve personal matters....
