A New Mexico mom who handed her son a firearm and told him to shoot a homeless woman was found guilty of second-degree murder.

According to a Facebook post by Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman, 46-year-old Kristina Withrow was convicted by a jury Thursday of second-degree murder with a firearm enhancement, aggravated assault with a firearm enhancement, and tampering with evidence following a jury trial. The verdict marked the end of one chapter of the fallout related to the shooting death of 36-year-old Monique Garcia, who died of gunshot wounds she received at the hands of Kristian Crespin, 20, Withrow’s son, in April 2023.

They seem nice.

What the **** is wrong with people?
Want a list?

Start with gun culture and one demographic painting a target on homeless people, AND I find it interesting that the last name of the victim is Garcia, so maybe all Hispanics are now viewed as illegals and gang members?

Seriously. What a horrible thing to do over what seems like something pretty minor. Now her son is going to spend the rest of his youth in prison and will face all sorts of challenges when he gets out.

Politics aside for a moment, we've exchange empathy for hostility and encouraged a form of widespread entitlement narcissism I did not think was possible.

As I understand from a few sources the son, shooter, was uninterested in a trial and plead out to avoid more than the 18 years he got. His life is forever changed, no matter when he actually gets out economic and social limitation is his future. That leaves the mom to contend with and in some regards I'd like to see a trail and some sort of defense. Some explanation to the community what in the hell she was thinking telling her son to kill this homeless woman.

Until we deal with why there is so much interest in quick escalations to violence the rest is political window dressing.

I feel sorry for the kid, his life is ruined, and he will come out of prison some day with a lot of hate (or should I say more hate than he has in him now)

He's 20. Not sure when the shooting occurred but guessing he was at least 18. He was no kid and of course knew it was wrong.

A few questions, none of which makes murder a viable choice in this case?
Was the woman who was shot, latino? I ask because you suggest that was the reason.
Was the woman who was shot in fact homeless? Did she live in the complex? I ask because if she didn't live there she may have been tresspassing or even there for some illegal reason
Was the woman who was shot legally in the country. I ask because being illegally in th country is a crime.
You left out all the things I asked all those things could shed light on how and exactly what happened and why. Not that murder is the answer, but if she was illegally in the country, if she was tresspassing, if she was there for some illegal activity then the entire situation could have been avoided if she had just not been there.
Now, maybe none of those things I question are the case and she became the victim of some asshole with access to a gun who in fact didn't like latinos?

I know a few 18 yr olds that are still momma's boys. Hell, I bet a few 48 yr olds are still momma's boys.

Such a broad brush and so little material to spread so far...

Admittedly a broad brush, but then again..........
Gun culture
Attacks on homelessness
Garcia, come on! That one sounds very obvious.

Doesnt mean they dont know right from wrong and unless mentally challenged, there's no excuse for them not to.

Somewhere around 100 million members of the gun culture- not even counting almost 13 million Canadian members- managed to not shoot any homeless people that very same day.

Your brush is broad and your bucket is shallow.

YET............guns involved
Homeless targeted
Garcia the victim's last name

Now, I admitted, yes, broad brush, BUT............. typically when someone gets as defensive as you have, it indicates that the broad brush is painting a picture.

It ain't painting anything. You're trying, but failing.

Six foot broad brush; thimble for a bucket. That should tell you something of your effectiveness.

Unfreakin' believable!

Calling out bigoted nonsense isn't being defensive. I'm proactively attacking that crap.
OMG, seriously, you are going to double down on defensiveness??
