"Missouri governor calls special session to redraw congressional maps"

Should we put you down as saying that any state that does this is a "dictator-supporting state"?
Only Trump is bragging about being one, so only states doing this to help him consolidate power qualify.

Capisce?

Ooooh. So any other state who redraws congressional maps is doing it because.......?

Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe on Friday announced a special session to draw new congressional maps – becoming the latest governor of a Republican-run state to accede to President Donald Trump’ s demands to undertake mid-decade redistricting.

Kehoe ordered lawmakers to return to the state capitol next week to take up the map-drawing, along with legislation aimed at weakening the state’s citizen initiative process....
The CNN article continues:

...On Friday, Trump hailed Kehoe’s move in a social media post, saying the session would yield a “new, much fairer, and much improved, Congressional Map, that will give the incredible people of Missouri the tremendous opportunity to elect an additional MAGA Republican” next year.

Kehoe’s action came the same day that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law new maps in Texas, which Republicans hope could net them five additional House seats.

The Missouri special session will start Wednesday.

Trump and his allies have urged Republicans in several states – including Missouri Ohio, Indiana and South Carolina – to take aim at a handful of Democratic seats in their states in a quest to preserve or grow the GOP’s narrow majority in the US House after the 2026 midterm elections. Florida has also launched a legislative committee to examine redistricting, but any action is likely to occur next year.

I can still remember the days when we used call many other countries "Banana Republics". Who would have thought back then that we would end up being one ourselves??

In effect they are. This started because Trump fears a democratic-run committee that might be able to ask his administration questions. Dictators don’t like it when people ask questions. One of my favorite Trump moments was when he simply left the stage when asked a question.

Dictators prefer 3 hour-plus cabinet meetings where they are showered with praise.

So - any state that redraws congressional lines?

As I understand it, this is supposed to happen every 10 years. Why do you think it is happening now, other than that Trump wants it?

Should we ask California?

Ooooh. So any other state who redraws congressional maps is doing it because.......?

Because...They did it first!

There was a saying in the Army: There's only one thief in the Army. Everyone else is just trying to get their shit back.

So let's say 10, 20, or 30 other states follow suit. Some blue states, others red states. We'd have half the country potentially living in districts where they're artificially carved into a district that doesn't really reflect their community's needs in the way that a more balanced system would provide. Essentially taxation but without real representation. Does anyone right, left, or center think that this ends well, and that this is a way to run a democratic republic? It's really a recipe for civil unrest over time.

I think the republic is lost already. I personally wanted to highlight MIssouri joining the effort because Trump is getting these supposed states-rights bastions to kneel with very little effort on his part.

Which illustrates, I think, that federalism was never the motivating cause for Republicans. It was always really about the Lost Cause.

This embarrassing fail-attempt at the socratic ever work for you?

She got at least one answer, which was "They did it first!"

That's not the actual point of socratic questioning. The poster in question is just bad at it. It comes across as bowling for attagirls.

So the question is really difficult to answer?
