In any proper country and really anytime before 90s America, a military parade to honor the anniversary of the founding of the army would be a nationally-recognized thing. There would be no libertarian outrage over "muh taxpayer money" as if veterans affair budget hasnt skyrocketed the last 30 years, it would not be a partisan event and something that all aspects of society could enjoy, there would be school trips to D.C to honor the event and to see the history in the area especially on flag day. I could go on and on but the point is the country is no longer equipped to deal with Western traditions that has been in place for centuries. American civil patriotism doesn't even exist anymore, really the French are doing it better than us and we started that!
Even more interesting is that the white republican base has failed at every single level to prevent this. Look at the crowd from yesterday. Barely anyone showed up, and those who did were disproportionally non-white or elderly (just look at photos). Despite all the energy around young men and MAGA where were they yesterday? Not seen, and the simple reason is because there is virtually zero framework of American civil patriotism, and MAGA is not some American-bred movement full of energetic patriots. The MAGA movement, at least for whites, is simply an excuse to attack wokeness. Frat guys want to be able to drink and party and wave trump flags and to trigger blue-haired feminists, gamers want gores and hot women in games again, influencers get to showcase UFC and tough masculinity against wokeness, etc. BUT there is not a single shred of positive affirmation of American civil identity, history, and statecraft. Most historical associations and civil groups and historical reenactments of American history are liberal democrats. Any shred of American identity is now reserved for liberals or non-white families and white republicans are good for cookouts, boats, pool parties, and rallying against transgenders in sports.
That is the MAGA base: the white populace, combining both more "hilbilly" elements but also suburban finance men and sorority girls, who take virtually zero interest in anything and especially zero interest in what was american standard civic life, all in the name of anti-wokeness. I still remember when being interested in history and ww2 was "republican-coded", but with the onslaught of red pill morons and people like dana white and dave portnoy, the republican party is actively building a white base of losers uninterested in life and things.
And that showed yesterday. As much as I applaud Trump's effort, it was very clear that it's just a sloppy, boring country at this point and his base is a perfect representation of that. The 90s democrats who liked weed and sex and it was republican history-loving nerds has completely flipped.
His "patriotic" base couldn't show for a parade in the nation's capital but liberals were happy to go outside and protest. In both cases young people weren't there. Late stage empire.
