It irks me to see people drawing disability for lame excuses. I know several who are drawing funds for "disabilities" that in no way prevent them from holding a job. I also know a few officers who were given a percentage disability with their retirement, even without asking for it. In some states, that qualifies them for a substantial reduction on their taxes.
SOME of our "disabled" are taking money that the truly disabled need.
I have a relative who is drawing money for poor hearing. He entered the military in that condition, barely qualified for enlistment. So it got a little worse, and they sent him packing.
He ties up the VA doctors with his self inflicted lung ailments, chain smoking for decades until he got emphysema, then he quit cold turkey.
Got a friend who can't walk because the navy doctors failed to diagnose a tumor on his spine until it was too late. That man is in a wheel chair, and gets less money than an officer with shoulder issues related to arthritis that keeps him from doing certain physical activities that require lifting his arms above his shoulders.
His post military jobs paid him very well, but flying a desk doesn't require much physical dexterity.
It isn't just welfare queens scamming the public.....
But it appears that nothing can be done once the disability is established.
