The secretary of state is the chief diplomat responsible for guiding the foreign policy for the United States of America, and the face of America in the world — including the Muslim world. And soon, the man holding that job will be a former right-wing Tea Party congressman who once, among other Islamophobic statements and actions, accepted an award from a hate group labeled the “largest anti-Muslim group" in the country by both the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center

In the aftermath of the firing of now-former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Donald Trump wasted no time in naming CIA director Mike Pompeo as Tillerson's replacement. But before his time at the CIA, Mike Pompeo was a no-name Tea Party congressman from Kansas who positioned himself as a right-wing uber-hawk, particularly in relation to foreign policy toward the Muslim world.

This shows a continuation of the nasty direction that Trump is steering our country: a grade-A bigot running our foreign policy? What about the Middle East & Israel/Palestinian peace?

SPLC is a political pressure group which lost all of their credibility long ago.

But yes this man is not a progressive so you are not going to agree with him, and that is OK.

I don't think it's a great idea to have the CIA directing our foreign policy.

Is the CIA going to negotiate peace with our enemies?

Tillerson was incompetent because he failed to properly staff the State Department. But Trump is the one who hired someone with no government experience. And Trump still has his son-in-law running around like the acting Secretary of State.

There has never ever been a more incompetent president.

Pompeo is simply a Trump "Ass kisser". Despite Trump's claim that he likes hearing differing views, what Trump actually wants is for somebody to take his side and lavish praise upon him. Tillerson had too much backbone to kiss Trumps ass. Pompeo has no such dilema.

There is no such thing as islamophobia. Islam is the single most horrible ideology to ever exist. Everywhere Islam has any influence women are seen as little more than live stock and non Islamic people are murdered and subjugated. Islam is a pox on humanity and any fear of it is not just rational but wise.

What we have to keep in mind here is that Islam is a RELIGION, hence it is a choice. While most Muslims are not violent, far too many (mostly in Middle Eastern countries) will not denounce the violence used by Islamic terrorist groups.

Pompeo wanted the Muslim Brotherhood designated as a terrorist group. While that might be slightly over the top, Egypt has designated them as a terrorist group after Morsi (an MB member) was elected and his followers began to enforce strict Sharia, via force in Egypt. Egypt's military overthrew him and banned the MB.

We do (as a international community) have a problem with Islam, perhaps not so much from violence (that's typically limited to radicals) but definitely from their backward treatment of women and homosexuals. If we are to claim we support human rights -- we cannot tolerate that. Fully half a million Muslim females (in the US, no less) have either undergone female genital mutilation (FGM) or are at risk of having it done to them. The procedure is illegal, yes, but it's still out of control.

Pompeo sounds a bit extreme, but we actually have leftists who are supporting the subversion of women, via their defense of all-things-Muslim.

If we see some common sense coming from the progressives when it comes to Islam, it'd be much better. As I said at the first -- religion is a choice, it isn't like skin color or a disability, hence, it shouldn't be considered discrimination to denounce a religion.
