The Trump campaign appeared to disavow one of its most provocative policy proposals on Thursday, as Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana said explicitly that Donald J. Trump no longer wants to impose a temporary ban on Muslim immigration to the United States. In a round of television interviews in which he was asked to clarify once and for all where the campaign stands on the proposal, Mr. Pence, who opposed the ban before becoming Mr. Trump’s running mate, declared the idea dead. The reversal is a significant one for the Trump campaign, which was accused of promoting a policy that was discriminatory and likely unconstitutional when Mr. Trump unveiled it in the name of national security last year.
Asked on CNN about why he will not condemn the Muslim ban now, Mr. Pence said, “Because that’s not Donald Trump’s position now.”

Two questions come to mind...
1. After months of Trump supporters defending this policy as "common sense", won't this lose him some support?
2. Is Pence now running this campaign? It seems very much like Trump is taking a back seat (at least where the media is concerned) and letting his VP shape a new narrative and moderate (or deny) his positions.
There is a list a mile long of things Trump has said that were impractical, improbable, idiotic, unworkable or flat out unconstitutional. Since Trump seems to lack any ability to ever admit he was wrong about something, it falls on Pence to clean up Trumps moronic positions.Mike Pence Disavows Donald Trump’s Earlier Proposal Banning Muslims - The New York Times

Seriously - if you were the Trump campaign manager, who would you prefer to front your campaign?Mike Pence Disavows Donald Trump’s Earlier Proposal Banning Muslims - The New York Times

These two are working like a well oiled machine now. What this is about is building the coalition, Trump is increasingly playing the role of statesman while his second does the political heavy lifting, but make no mistake, they are a team and Trump is in charge. This thread topic is a continuation of what we saw at the VP debate. They are trying to calm enough nerves so that they win. The people who love Trump will vote for him no matter what now, and we know we need a bigger team to win, and Trump has our permission to do what ever it takes to win. We would expect nothing less of him.

Pence is trying to do the best of both words: save himself so he can continue to forge ahead in his own career, and create a softer image for conservatives who are fleeing from Donald because he's bat**** insane. His media training is coming through crystal clear: refuse to discuss what other people want to discuss and create his own narrative no matter what, just as he did during the debate.
From more than a few sources Trump is unhappy at being thrown under the bus while also being clearly upstaged at the debate, but if I had to guess I'd say Pence's philosophy in this situation is "every man for himself."
As for the attempt at softening Trump's image, it doesn't appear to be working. From what I'm gathering, while Kaine got his ass handed to him in the debate on style, Trump is losing the post-debate because it's clear that Pence was unable and unwilling to defend him.
I disagree, at least partially - though Trump did try to spin Pence's widely perceived superior debate performance by claiming Pence showcased Trump's own administrative abilities. These two are working like a well oiled machine now. CORRECT...... Trump has had a plan from the beginning.... he understands there is no way to win a general election if one is too STRONG being anti abortion because women have been brainwashed so strongly on that issue.... He saw he COULD win a general election if people thinks he may be a fake conservative.... when he worked new york for his business he worked it to seem he is also a democrat so he could get the best deals ..... BUT he never was a democrat... that was simply to fool the democrats......
the media has brainwashed women so much that any conservative that shows a pure conservative he could not get elected..... pence could not get elected because of that same as ted cruz...
the media are globalists... they brainwash to get women to work for globalism and NOT work for their children .. so they brainwash the very worst thing ever in history the killing of over 70 million american young which now has caused a gigantic problem of a big imbalance of young to old...
any body running that is NOT a globalist the media will brainwash the unwise minds to think they are crazy.... they did the same with ross perot the last american nationalist
but the media may have reached TOO far trying to get more of the world to bring them more money.... them pushing muslims may finally wake up women and blacks and hispanics....and gays
BUT BUT how can an unwise mind not see the great harm ever is abortion... if they cannot see that harm there is NOTHING that they can see as harmful
the only solution is a wisdom test for voters and that is coming soon when the real power THE MEN demands states rights or secession will come and when 31 states separates they will make a wisdom test for their voters so that the unwise cannot out vote the wise....
Were those 3 am tweets an example of Trump playing the 'statesman' role?
I think this is reasonably accurate.1. Trump supporters aren't likely paying this much attention to what if anything Pence is saying. They could care less.
2. Trump does the big picture stuff. They released Pence for policy stuff. Seems to be Christie's doing with Kelly's blessing, but Pence seems like a liar now to anybody who is actually paying attention.

Trump had a month by month plan last year, getting conservatives was part of it. He has spent a over year setting up the grand finale, and it needs to be spectacular.
Trump also selected pence because pence is a gov .. and pence has a history of challenging the feds unlike other republican governors..... so the reason why he selected pence is trump got the REAL POWER .. with winning the MEN .. the white men in a landslide.. the law enforcement .. the military and all those people that has stopped voting
SO trump got the REAL POWER then he selects pence to help work demands by conservative governors and if states rights cannot come they can secede.... 31 states has already said NO to the refugee plan...
TRUMP selected pence to help with the states rights pressure on the feds and also help the governors work together to push
