Kudos to these employees for taking a strong position but this action will probably get them all fired.

As a private corporation Microsoft isn't bound by the 1st Amendment and won't likely tolerate this disruption to their operations.

Dozens of Microsoft employees occupied the company’s east campus in Redmond, Washington to protest against what they say is the use of its software by the Israeli military to carry out operations in Gaza and enable the surveillance of Palestinians.

Less than a week after the company said it was launching an independent investigation into the use of its Azure software, current and former staff occupied a space they declared the “Free Zone”, holding placards that read “Join The Worker Intifada – No Labor for Genocide” and “Martyred Palestinian Children’s Plaza”.

If anyone is expecting a kumbaya moment, or some massive reversal of whatever Microsoft has going with Israel, then you are fooling yourself.

And if Microsoft is the target today, where is all the outrage for Amazon, BAE Systems, Boeing, Cisco, Colt, DJI (maker of "assassin drones,") Ford, General Dynamics, GM, Northrop Grumman, RTX (Raytheon,) Toyota, and dozens of others that supply all sorts of things including logistics to Israel and their military?

Nor should they.
It proves the point for the thousandth time that money is more important than genocide.
Businesses and their leaders are the only ones left who can make a difference. They won't do it if it costs them one dollar.

It proves that you think Israel is committing genocide and that others do not.

Brave words when it's not your dollar.

I don't need to think anything. Just watching the current news is all I need. Never said no one else is doing it. This thread is about Israel.
I am not in a position to make a difference like Microsoft is. Or many other multi billion dollar corporations. They need to put their money where their mouth is. Because we know damn well the politicians are useless.

Corporate CEOs are also politicians, elected by their boards and shareholders.

Although they may have the moral principles to know right from wrong their first obligation is to the shareholders. It is in fact a fiduciary obligation.

If they want to keep their cosy corner office they won't say or do anything that will erode revenue.

I understand. Doesn't make it right.

Heartfelt support for the employees. We need the entire nation to follow suit

I agree, those opinions are not the product of thought.

Actually, you're asking Microsoft to put their money where your mouth is, and I'll be surprised if they do that.

Protests on college campuses caused them to divest in companies that did business with South Africa. Helped end apartheid.

This protest may not get results but movements have to start somewhere.

Something STINKS about this story. It's not adding up to me.

Azure is basically a fancy cloud "disk drive". They were storing information. The IDF used it to store information they got from mass surveillance. But as far as I understand, Microsoft didn't do the surveillance, they didn't build tools for surveillance per se - they just offered storage.

Then Microsoft announced - last week - that they were investigating the IDF use of the service.

Now given that, in an environment where workers are being fired by their masters for so much as "liking" Palestinians, I'm supposed to believe that a protest group of Microsoft workers on the Microsoft campus made a stink about them not being good enough at censoring the Israeli military? In an environment where software workers are getting laid off in droves as AI replaces them all?

No, I think that the showy protest, complete with TENTS to remind people of Ivy League universities, is an obvious ploy meant to back up a future move by the Trump administration to prohibit Microsoft from refusing service to the IDF, and/or revoke every contract they have with the government first and demand a huge cash settlement and veto power over who they hire before promulgating such a policy.

Sorry guys - you're being had.

You can make a difference!

First, you need to make absolutely sure certain you aren’t using any Microsoft products or their derivatives. If you are, destroy them immediately. This will give you the credibility you’ll need to organize a resistance movement. Make a sacrifice. Throw your XBox away, and make a video of it to post on Look At Me, or whatever it’s called. Then you’ll have to bona fides to gather a following. You’ll likely garner international support from groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis - all the H’s - right from the start. A word of caution: I understand those guys like their XBoxes. They may not have refrigeration or underwear, but they all have XBoxes. That might be a hard sell.

MAGAs are never serious. Not amusing whatsoever.

Sorry guys - you're being had.

I'd like to be sure I understand correctly what you're suggesting.

1. Microsoft is pretending to have its workers protest and occupy one of its campuses.

2. The reason Microsoft is doing this is to "back up" a future move by the Trump administration.

3. That future move will be the administration banning Microsoft from refusing to sell to the IDF.

Is that what you're saying?

There is also the part "and/or revoke every contract they have with the government first and demand a huge cash settlement and veto power over who they hire before promulgating such a policy". I recognize all the words, and I think I understand the part about revoking contracts, but I can't keep track of who is doing what in the rest of the sentence.

Is that what you're saying?
No. I'm saying that I would hazard a guess that there were about five kinds of people at that demonstration: Israeli agents, Israeli infiltrators, Israeli collaborators, Israeli dupes, and Israeli patsies. Probably heavy on the dupes.

Nobody thought Trump would destroy Columbia and Harvard. But Harvard had a famous law school. By contrast, Microsoft has ... competitors like Oracle and Palantir with deeper ties to the Trump administration than Donald Trump himself. So let's add some economically motivated people to the mix also.

Very dumb employees. I hope they do get fired.

Ah.

So it's not Microsoft staging this pre-emptive pantomime. It's Israeli "agents, infiltrators, collaborators, dupes and patsies". They are the ones taking over Microsoft's east campus to protest the use of Microsoft products by the IDF. While their real intention is the opposite.

I don't think Dale Gribble could have come up with that.

Ah. So you just hate the Jews. Got it.

To the contrary, Israel is only a means to an end with both Columbia and Microsoft. The college and the company are valuable assets, and assets are worth money. But backers of the IDF only care about their own little conflict, and so I doubt they care if they are being used in a higher purpose.

lol. You would probably be happier in the CT section.
Lots of fellow Jew haters making up all kinds of silly stories in there.
