Anyone using Save This Life microchip service, it's out of business and the chips are no longer traceable to owners. Just got the notice from my vet. Luckily my new pup was registered with the same company as the one who passed away, Home Again.

A pet's currently implanted chip can be registered to a new company. A vet can do it.

It seems the Texas tax department closed down Save This Life.

I was given that paperwork when I had my pup chipped, I looked at their site, seemed to be very unprofessional and disorganized. I contact Home Again, and they said no problem, they'd register it there. I was unsure at the time how things worked with the chips. Thanks for the info Allan.

".......Pet owners should take quick action to ensure their pet is registered with a legitimate provider in case their pet goes missing. The easiest way to do this is to recommend pet parents get their pet scanned at their local veterinary practice. Once that’s done, the number that comes up can be used on AAHA’s Microchip Registry Lookup tool. Many news articles about Save This Life’s closure have also linked to the registry. The tool can be used to search for and identify what company a pet’s microchip is registered with.

If practices know they have chipped patients with Save This Life chips, they can contact clients to let them know of the company’s status. They can also offer help registering with a new provider if necessary. At least one company, BuddyID, was temporarily offering free registration for pet owners impacted by the Save This Life closure......"

Would never have guessed.

Thank you for the additional information Utility Man, there were a couple of links at the bottom of the email I received. If my pet was affected, I'd take care of it immediately.
