Mexico could file suit against Google for 'Gulf of Mexico' name change, president says

Actually. It’s pretty smart. Someone has studied Trumps Legal trend.

Traditionally Trump files a lawsuit and makes a big deal on the announcement. Everyone says he is going to win. Everyone says it is an obvious decision.

Then a couple years later the case is quietly settled. Trump pays the other person and gets an NDA then declares victory.

Mexico by filing the lawsuit sets up Trump. He won’t be able to resist running out and complaining to the Press that Mexico is suing because they think the Gulf of America should be called the Gulf of Mexico. He will demand the Judge throw the case out. He will send out Tweets and such ranting as usual.

The Press will quote him and be able to print Gulf of Mexico because Trump said it without any repercussions.

Brilliant.
Has Mexico stumped up the cash for his wall yet, or are we still waiting-like we're still awaiting the 'amazing findings' his 'team' brought back from Hawaii, regarding Obama's heritage?

What a pathetic simpleton he is.

I repeat that Mexico could retaliate by naming the Gulf of California the “Gulf of Sonora” or the “Gulf of Baja California,” as that body of water has little to do with the state of California. Even better, Newsom could restore the state’s original name, Alta California.

At any rate, it’s good to see our leaders spending time on these important topics.

Why? Was the entire planet previously named Mexico and now Taco changed it?
It used to be.

Much of what is now called the "United States" was once called Mexico.

People changed it, and Google complied. Legit reason for Mexico to sue. Sue Google to the ground; viva Mexico 🇲🇽!

It used to be.

Much of what is now called the "United States" was once called Mexico.

You said "the entire planet."

I asked a question based off that. Do you have an answer? When was "the entire planet" named Mexico?

People changed it, and Google complied.

People changed the name of "the entire planet"?

When?

Legit reason for Mexico to sue.

My questions stand. When was the entire planet named Mexico?

Sue Google to the ground; viva Mexico 🇲🇽!

Sure, I guess.

You said "the entire planet."
Again, it would be smart of them. Imagine how cool it would be for the entire planet to be named Mexico.

I asked a question based off that. Do you have an answer? When was "the entire planet" named Mexico?

I merely said they should sue to get it changed. Why stop at some arbitrary line? Why not all of everything that used to be called Mexico, has ever been called Mexico or might ever be called Mexico? Do they just like renaming things for any reason?

They just want the Gulf back, and not everything else that used to be called Mexico? Why? That seems dumb and petty.

People changed the name of "the entire planet"?

When?
Pretty much all the time. All places used to be called other things, and then people changed them. Just in the United States in the past twenty years, entire mountains have been renamed, land on military bases have been renamed, streets have been renamed; heck, did you know that the place you call "The United States" used to be called a bunch of other names by many different people? Maybe they should sue?

I bet you can't name a single place on the planet that hasn't been renamed.

I see no connection here to Google. As far as I can tell, it would be an entirely frivolous lawsuit.
Matching Trump’s frivolous, idiotic action in trying to rename the body of water in question after hundreds of years of the world’s referral to it as the Gulf of Mexico.

Again, it would be smart of them. Imagine how cool it would be for the entire planet to be named Mexico.

Why? They don't think so. Neither does anyone else. You seem to, but that makes sense since you're the one who pulled the idea out of nowhere.

I merely said they should sue to get it changed. Why stop at some arbitrary line? Why not all of everything that used to be called Mexico, has ever been called Mexico or might ever be called Mexico? Do they just like renaming things for any reason?

No, actually, they're not the ones who renamed the Gulf in the first place. 🤔

They just want the Gulf back, and not everything else that used to be called Mexico?

Like what and when?

Why? That seems dumb and petty.

This idea of yours seems the same.

Pretty much all the time. All places used to be called other things, and then people changed them.

Oh...just like that? They said "yeah, sure, name this what you want"?

There weren't like, literal wars or displacement involved before the "renamings*? It was just all cool?

Just in the United States in the past twenty years, entire mountains have been renamed, land on military bases have been renamed, streets have been renamed; heck, did you know that the place you call "The United States" used to be called a bunch of other names by many different people? Maybe they should sue?

They literally fought two bloody wars for that name, one when taking ownership from King George and one when a percentage of the United States decided they felt like changing that portion of that name.

I bet you can't name a single place on the planet that hasn't been renamed.

I bet you couldn't have an honest debate if you tried. 👍

Why? They don't think so. Neither does anyone else. You seem to, but that makes sense since you're the one who pulled the idea out of nowhere.
Not at all. This thread was started by someone who said Mexico should sue to rename something...

I didn't start this thread. They pulled that idea out nowhere; of course it doesn't make sense! 😀

That was the point.

No, actually, they're not the ones who renamed the Gulf in the first place. 🤔
For sure. It was those damn English people.

Maybe sue them, instead of Google? No one called it the gulf of Mexico before they renamed it.
Oh...just like that? They said "yeah, sure, name this what you want"?
Ummm... yeah, that's how naming things works?

There weren't like, literal wars or displacement involved before the "renamings*? It was just all cool?
For some of them. Others were just like, signed by a President. Happens all the time, it seems.

They literally fought two bloody wars for that name, one when taking ownership from King George and one when a percentage of the United States decided they felt like changing that portion of that name.
I don't think Mexico needs to go to war over a name change. Maybe they will though? But basically names get changed all the time. If they are going to sue, might as well sue big!

Not at all. This thread was started by someone who said Mexico should sue to rename something...

No, they did not want to rename the Gulf of Mexico. They want to keep the name, not find a new one. This might be where your confusion is coming in.

I didn't start this thread. They pulled that idea out nowhere; of course it doesn't make sense! 😀

So this story is inaccurate? How so?

That was the point.

For sure. It was those damn English people.

Maybe sue them, instead of Google? No one called it the gulf of Mexico before they renamed it.

They could have sued at the time, correct?

Ummm... yeah, that's how naming things works?

Um....yes it is.

For some of them. Others were just like, signed by a President.

Those probably were like, not against anyone's wishes.

But this one is.

Those likely also were changes made by like, the government that owns those lands. Right? Is the Gulf of Mexico owned by the U.S.? And the U.S. exclusively? Or is Taco implying ownership by changing the name? 🤔 😁

appens all the time, it seems.

All the time?

I don't think Mexico needs to go to war over a name change.

You know what the point is, however. :)

Maybe they will though?

Who knows?

But basically names get changed all the time. If they are going to sue, might as well sue big!

Except they only want to sue based on this one thing. 🤷 That plus the fact that they *can't* sue to have the Earth's name changed "back" to Mexico because like, the Earth was never named Mexico.

Doesn't even come close to describing this clown !

But Google has changed it. Isn't that the point? And so Mexico wants it changed. For some reason. Clearly names get changed all the time. Few people sue over it.
So this story is inaccurate? How so?
It's not inaccurate; one person threatened to sue Google because they wanted to change the name of an area.

It's not inaccurate, it's just dumb. That person might as well sue to get as much of the planet as they can named how they want. Can't hurt.

They could have sued at the time, correct?
For sure. But they knew it was dumb to do so.
Those probably were like, not against anyone's wishes.
Of course they were. People objected.

No one cared. They renamed it anyway.

But this one is.

Those likely also were changes made by like, the government that owns those lands. Right? Is the Gulf of Mexico owned by the U.S.? And the U.S. exclusively? Or is Taco implying ownership by changing the name? 🤔 😁
This is about Google... a company that makes a map... if you don't like their map, don't use it. If you think they call things weird names, that's great; don't use their maps.

But to sue Google to name things the way you want? That's weird.
All the time?
Many hundreds of times per year across humanity, just going off the average of places renamed over the past century.

So daily, at least, on average.

Except they only want to sue based on this one thing. 🤷 That plus the fact that they *can't* sue to have the Earth's name changed "back" to Mexico because like, the Earth was never named Mexico.
But it could be named Mexico. It could be named anything we decide. That's the great thing about names; they change all the time. If you are going to sue, why not go all in? Why not sue to rename everything that was once called Mexico?

And who the **** named it Mexico anyway? Why not sue to rename it the name it was called before they renamed it Mexico. Weird. Conservatives who want things to stay the same are just weird.
