Members of Amish communities in Ohio traveled to the Philippines for heartfelt reasons: They were there on service projects to help less fortunate people. Unfortunately, they came home with unwelcome hitchhikers: measles viruses.
Those travelers hadn't been vaccinated against this highly contagious disease, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday. As a result, they have triggered an outbreak of more than 130 cases, primarily among their unvaccinated friends and relatives in Amish communities

Seems to me a good reason for government to be involved in health care choices and for religion to stay in the church. I have never understood people not vaccinating, it is just as bad a smokers thinking second hand smoke is no big deal because they are entitled to their cigs.
So to keep communicable diseases from spreading, you are in favor of the government taking significant steps? Where would you have isolated all the people with HIV back in the day?

So a total of 130 (out of 318million Americans) contracted the measles. No deaths. With these numbers, do you think we should start forcing vaccinations?
I, for one, am against forced anything when we're talking about medications.
I have no problems with forced vaccinations if someone wants to be a member of society.

You don't think that's a bit extreme considering how small the number of people contracting the disease? Percentage wise, it's about 0.0000004% of the US population. I don't think the numbers pan out to be worth the concern. If folks don't want to be vaccinated, it's their risk.
Call me when the numbers reach closer to 25%.

I disagree.
This is Darwin at his finest.
Want to be an idiot?
Fine, you go right ahead.
When Mother Nature steps in and wipes out your stupidity don't come crying to us.
But is a needless emergency that is completely preventable.

I've been vaccinated, my kids have been vaccinated, what do I care if folks want to be dumbasses?

Vaccinations are already 'forced.' Don't believe it? Try putting your children in public school without them.
I have a right to increase exposure risk for children in school, damnit!
How's that working out for you?
It's not my emergency.
Most of the people who die from the disease are young children. Do you have any idea how many children would have to die to reach your 25% threshold?
25%? For a contagious and potentially fatal disease? That's already an apocalypse-level outbreak, and that's when you want to start vaccinating? Jesus Christ.
I care that their dumbass choice endangers their children, and others. My niece isn't old enough for all the recommended vaccines yet. Unvaccinated people put her in greater danger, and that makes me a tad ornery.
Deaths from measles is extremely rare... so please, hold off with the hyperbolic nonsense.
