McConnell says Trump will sign funding bill, declare a national emergency

President Donald Trump plans to sign a compromise border security measure in conjunction with declaring a national emergency to secure funding for a border wall, according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Speaking on the Senate floor Thursday, McConnell sought to reassure lawmakers unsure of the President's position before taking a vote on the plan, which falls short of providing the $5 billion in border wall funding the President had demanded.

"He has indicated he is prepared to sign the bill. He will also be issuing a national emergency declaration at the same time," McConnell said. "I've indicated to him that I'm going to support the national emergency declaration. So for all of my colleagues, the President will sign the bill, we will be voting on it shortly."​
 
CNN is reporting that altho The Donald will sign the bill, he's also going to declare a national emergency.

He doesnt want to look bad shutting down the govt again, so this is his 'play.'

Huge freaking ego, I hope that he gets completely humiliated again when the courts stop him.

I can just imagine the right-wing posters here howling at the moon if Obama said he was going to take funds appropriated by Congress for other purposes and spend the money on a project that Congress wouldn't fund. They'd be calling for Obama's impeachment for violating Article I authority.

Unforeseeable? What about it was unforeseen? He straight up said that declaring an emergency was on the table a long time ago. That if an agreement could not be reached that he would quite possibly declare a national emergency.
 
While we're giving Trump his deserved criticism, remember to save some back for McConnell's cowardice.

He is both signing the bill AND declaring an emergency.

At least Trump didn't ignore Congress. He gave them the chance to do the right thing.

Obama used appropriated funds for other purposes...and he didn't even bother to bring it up with Congress.

He will be creating more dangerous precedents. McConnell is not better than Trump at setting precedents, and he has gone out and declared support in Trump's national emergency plan.

Republicans scream and holler about Federal Over reach....Now not so much....This will be tied up in the courts for months, maybe years
 

He doesnt really have a choice but to try.... he got his ass kicked on this issue so now does he want to lose "bigly" or lose "hugely" for now. he has to make the extremists happy and put on a show

I said it before i actually WANT him to do it this way so it can eventually get shot down in the courts and then hopefully "national emergency can have a better defined, legal or precedence based definition in the future so that NO president cant throw a temper tantrum and act like a tyrant and get a way with it . . .

but in the end he will lose hugely
