Mass. National Guard pulls out of parade (1 Viewer)

"On Jan. 31 the Department of Defense issued guidance saying “Military Departments will not use official resources, to include man-hours, to host celebrations or events related to cultural awareness months.”

Time to expand support for and number of celebrations without them, and trumpmusk supporterds not welcome. Add content celebrating trump's convictions, his defeat by Biden, and more.

And that’s fine. However, there is no need for the NG to participate in these parades.
This is a slippery slope, however. When will some Dem. President forbid the Air Guard to overfly NASCAR races? They are pretty heavily populated by Southern White folks, although they have been trying to diversify. I think that military participation in these celebrations is at least as much military PR as promotion of the event. I suspect that the NASCAR flyovers have led a few young men to consider the profession of military pilot.

They pulled out as a form of protest, not because of Trumps orders. We've seen this a few times.
You would be wrong about that.

On the very day President Trump signed a proclamation affirming February as Black History Month, his Department of Defense (DOD)declared that “identity months” were “dead” over at the Pentagon.

The guidance, issued on January 31, claimed the military should celebrate “the valor and success of military heroes of all races, genders, and backgrounds” while focusing on “the character of [military members’] service instead of their immutable characteristics.” In other words, Black History Month—along with other heritage months—was effectively erased from official recognition.

The fallout was swift.

In early February, the Maryland National Guard pulled out of the annual Frederick Douglass celebration scheduled for February 22 in Talbot County, Maryland, citing the new DoD memo. A letter from Lt. Col. Meaghan Lazak stated that since the event was part of a Black History Month celebration, the Guard could not provide a band, troops, a flyover, or military vehicles.

Identity Months Dead at DoD

Guidance from the Secretary of Defense: "Identity Months Dead at DoD"

Our unity and purpose are instrumental to meeting the Department's warfighting mission. Efforts to divide the force – to put one group ahead of another – erode camaraderie and threaten mission execution.

Going forward, DoD Components and Military Departments will not use official resources, to include man-hours, to host celebrations or events related to cultural awareness months, including National African American/Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Pride Month, National Hispanic Heritage Month, National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and National American Indian Heritage Month. Service members and civilians remain permitted to attend these events in an unofficial capacity outside of duty hours.

Installations, units, and offices are encouraged to celebrate the valor and success of military heroes of all races, genders, and backgrounds as we restore our warrior culture and ethos. We are proud of our warriors and their history, but we will focus on the character of their service instead of their immutable characteristics.

This guidance is effectively immediately.

No Flyover or Band for Frederick Douglass Celebration. Maryland Guard Says It Violates Pentagon Policy.

Maryland National Guard officials have declined to participate in a celebration for American abolitionist Frederick Douglass' birthday, saying it violates the Defense Department's new orders to stop supporting Black History Month events.

A formal memo from the Maryland National Guard's Joint Operations Center, dated Feb. 7, said the reserve component would be "unable to support the event for a flyover, band, military vehicles and troop presence."
The celebration is called "Operation Frederick Douglass on the Hill" and marks the historic figure's 207th birthday. The remarks, signed by Lt. Col. Meaghan Lazak of the Maryland National Guard, began circulating online over the past week.

"Since this event is organized as part of a Black History month celebration, the Maryland National Guard cannot support," the memo reads.
"In accordance with the new guidance, the Maryland National Guard must decline events which celebrates [sic] individuals based all or in part on immutable characteristics."

Seems that perhaps you didn't get the MEMO?

No, they stopped sending them to me.

I agree why should they use official resources? They can do so voluntarily at their own expense. Would you approve of Heterosexual Pride month? Or how about White Privilege month?
MAGA would love those months.
Trump might make Federal Holidays for White Person Day and Heterosexual Day.

Why not? We have months for other races and sexual preferences. Are you a hetetro-phobe?

Write to your local Congressperson and Senator and ask for a National White Person holiday. Also ask for a National Heterosexual Person holiday.
