Mark’s Alternative AFI List: The 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time

LOL, I went to the link and loved one of the commentators on there saying this..............

Does anyone know why (on what basis) Lawrence of Arabia and The Bridge on the River Kwai are classified as American by the AFI?

“Does anyone know why (on what basis) Lawrence of Arabia and The Bridge on the River Kwai are classified as American by the AFI?”

I believe those films were produced (or co-produced) and distributed by American studios, in which case they would qualify as American films.
I made a mistake when I did this list because I included Peeping Tom, which is a British film. If I were to do it over again, I would take out that film and include Michael Mann’s crime drama Heat.

Nice list. The French Connection would probably be on mine. Perhaps the Bank Dick.

Wow, this must be the first thing I’ve ever posted on this forum that you actually like, lol.

The French Connection is a crime classic to be sure; I included it on my list of 1,000 favorite movies, which is in alphabetical order. Never saw The Bank Dick.

I took a lot of heat from film buffs for claiming that French Connection 2 was a worthy follow-up. But I stand by it.

I actually saw Birth of a Nation on the big screen when I was a teenager.

Thinking Disney should do a remake and replace the black face with black bodies and really stir things up. :D

Never saw The French Connection 2. May have to check it out. William Friedkin was a phenomenal director. The French Connection is one of the greatest cop movies ever made, and The Exorcist is one of the greatest horror movies ever made. I also enjoyed his remake of 12 Angry Men. However, Jade sucked.

While I recognize that the original Birth of a Nation has an evil message and helped inspire the creation of the second (and most powerful) Ku Klux Klan in America, cinematically speaking, it is awesome. And Intolerance is even better and doesn’t have the racist stink to it.

Did you ever see Nate Parker’s 2016 version of Birth of a Nation? I thought it was hideous. It plays like a bad TV movie.
