There used to be a basic level of cooperation between the parties, with understood rules that would opt toward a more efficient process over strict tribalism. Somewhere we lost that.No amount of twisting can make this a Dem problem. It will be the MAGA GOP who opts for chaos should MTG decide to pull the plug on Johnson.
That was the deal McCarthy made to get the gavel. Dumb Kevin. Used to take five for a motion to vacate. Gaetz wanted it to be one and McCarthy caved. Why anyone would agree to make it easier to be removed as a condition of the job is fascinating. Poor Kev.There used to be a basic level of cooperation between the parties, with understood rules that would opt toward a more efficient process over strict tribalism. Somewhere we lost that.
IMHO democrats, JUST having made a deal, at one time would have told MTG to fly a kite for this speaker or the last. It would allow for continued operation, and there's really only a few months of legislative 'season' left. One day the shoe will be on the other foot, plus, it doesn't hurt to have the speaker owe you one. Now they would rather opt for chaos.
Officially?
FISA is why we haven't had terrorist attacks by foreign actors since 2001.I find it far more egregious that he voted to renew fisa. The supreme Court should bitch slap every senator and congressman that agreed to renew that. It's a much bigger issue then Ukraine funding.
making a deal isn't opting for chaos. In other words, yes, they'll absolutely take advantage of the situation and opt for chaos over some semblance of stability (again). Worth noting that they already got something of value (the deal they wanted), they'll be happy to help stab Jeffries in the back
NO money for OUR border in that bill, was there? As Schumer said, "We need MORE Mexicans in here because they have babies" and as Pelosi said, "Our construction sites will have no workers without 'immigrants.'"
As for your comment that any more than 5,000 would be detained. WHERE? In tents? Certainly not. They would housing, meals, medical care, advocates, schooling. And, of course, someone from the human rights commission to make sure they aren't mistreated.
5,000 encounters is 5,000 people. They are let in as long as they used their cell phone to make an appointment. See above as to what happens to those who weren't savvy enough to have the app.
PS. IF they can send back any illegal over 5,000 why can't they send them all back? Why let even ONE in?
Oh, WAIT! They claim "ASYLUM! ASYLUM. I am mistreated there and fear for my life." "Oh, OK, come with us to your new hotel. What kind of video games do you like? You have how many children with you? Just 5? OK, we'll get babysitting services, diapers, formula."
There was a bill before them that would have provided more funding for the Mexico/US border..the Republicans rejected it.I agree. This brings the money for Ukraine's border to over 200 BILLION.
For Amerika's border...ZERO
I too was surprised at Johnson's sudden change of heart on Ukraine aid. My thinking is that being the good Christian he wanted aid to Israel, but he knew Schumer would never let that vote happen without aid to Ukraine passing. It also could be that as he claimed, when he got the CIA briefings he realized how serious the situation was in Ukraine. Whatever his reasoning I'm glad it is passed. There is something else going on with Johnson. Trump has been silent on this foreign aid bill and I cannnot believe, (Johnson,) he goes from, “it’s not going to the floor,” to it’s a done deal in two months time.
Trump had it handled.1. There was no SUPPLEMENTAL money in the current bills (for Foreign Aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Asia), but whose fault is that? Trump's that's who fault it was. The GOP House could have had supplemental money for the southern border had it moved on the Senate's bill. But, Trump said to kill the Senate Bill. So, here we have the GOP MAGA "conservatives" crying about something they killed. Unbelievable.
2. 5,000 encounters does not necessarily translate into 5,000 "detentions" -- Mexican illegal migrants coming over to work, for example, would have gotten deported immediately (or nearly so). And claims of *asylum* must be dealt with under our treaty obligations and pursuant to our existing laws - ah, that "rule of law" thing again. BUT, had the Senate Bill passed, a claim of asylum would have had to have been *initially* examined and determined within 90 days (with additional asylum examiners being hired to make sure that it happened).
It was a farce of a bill with two token RINOs like the j-6 panel so the evil Dems could get their sheep to think it was bipartisan on it who tried to shove it down our throats, one of whom resigned. There was a bill before them that would have provided more funding for the Mexico/US border..the Republicans rejected it.
BullshitFISA is why we haven't had terrorist attacks by foreign actors since 2001.
Ghomert left congress after 2022. He ran for AG against Paxton and lost. Although if he were in office still, he would give empty Green a run for the stupid prize. That who is I was thinking of. Screwy Louie isn't going to give up his title of Congressional moron easily.
How was it a farce? Right now there are no limits on asylum claims and there isn’t more funding for border security. It was a farce of a bill with two token RINOs like the j-6 panel so the evil Dems could get their sheep to think it was bipartisan on it who tried to shove it down our throats, one of whom resigned.
There are no limits right now on asylum because of the way Biden and Mayorkas just accept a CLAIM.How was it a farce? Right now there are no limits on asylum claims and there isn’t more funding for border security.
Trump had it handled.
Mike Johnson is going to be out as speaker because of this America last policy. ANOTHER hundred billion to Ukraine when we are already 35 TRILLION in debt. 100 billion would finish the wall across OUR border.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released operational statistics today for January 2024. Migrant encounters along the southwest border were significantly lower than experienced in December. CBP monthly reporting can be viewed on CBP’s Stats and Summaries webpage. “As a result of seasonal trends, as well as enhanced enforcement efforts by the men and women of CBP and our international partners, southwest border encounters between ports of entry dropped by 50% in January. CBP remains on the frontline in preventing fentanyl and other dangerous drugs from entering our country, enforcing our nation’s laws and interdicting 34% more fentanyl and 68% more cocaine than the previous month.
Since May 12, 2023 to January 31, 2024, DHS has removed or returned over 520,000 individuals, the vast majority of whom crossed the southwest border, including more than 87,000 individual family members. The majority of all individuals encountered at the southwest border over the past three years have been removed, returned, or expelled. Total removals and returns since mid-May exceed removals and returns in every full fiscal year since 2013.
Um dude the law allows asylum claims, regardless of how many seek asylum. The law needs to apply limits and that is done via CONGRESS. So, go read the law and explain where it says a president can arbitrarily apply any limit on asylum claimsThere are no limits right now on asylum because of the way Biden and Mayorkas just accept a CLAIM.
Ah, good ol' Louie. Uncovering the nefarious connection between the Muslim Brotherhood and the Obama administration..Ghomert left congress after 2022. He ran for AG against Paxton and lost. Although if he were in office still, he would give empty Green a run for the stupid prize.
I want to know what's wrong with the people that elect these clowns over and over.
It's a scam to make you think your government needs to violate the Constitution to protect you from an enemy that may not even exist.
That’s not a violation of the Constitution. It’s no different than a search warrant. I suppose you think search warrants are unconstitutionalIt's a scam to make you think your government needs to violate the Constitution to protect you from an enemy that may not even exist.
