The general election of the nation is almost at the doorstep with only 25 odd days to go. This is perhaps the time to go through our past days, analyze its pros and cons, rectify our errors and look forward to a bright future. This is the time to evaluate where are we heading for. Are we going towards the right direction, or we need some immediate action to bring our beautiful country in the right track. Whatever may our decision be, we must ensure that we put a deep thought into it before we go to polling station to cast our vote.
How have we been under the regime of Dr. Ralph Gonsalves? This could be the very first question that many of us have asked ourselves. Have we lived our lives peacefully? Do our citizens have enough resources to live lives comfortably? Do we have proper infrastructure for development and growth? Do our governmental policies are strong enough to give our industries the much needed thrust to grow at a faster rate? Are we free from corruption? Do the women feel safe in their own land? Many of these questions might have some answers that you may not love to get. How can we forget that we are a citizen of such a country that has an increasing national debt, how can we forget that our country is suffering from poor health service and needs an urgent improvement of the situation, and how can we forget that there is a big question mark on the freedom of speech in a ‘democratic’ country like ours?
More to our worry, in the past few years, we witnessed some incidents/accidents that have created a huge question, whether our country is in safe hands or not. It’s a shame that this country is led by someone who has got several charges including rape. It’s truly shattering when you find that your Prime Minister has been accused of sexual violence. And when the Prime Minister of a country is involved in such incident, it’s easily understandable how safe are the women in this country.
So, it’s high time to find out where are we heading for? And if we are going wrong, we must bring back our country to the right track. As an esteemed citizen of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, you have got the power to do the same. So, when you are going to the polling station this December 13, do think over all these. Your vote means a lot.
