We went to the No Kings March this weekend. 10,000 people, despite another March at the U of U on the same day in Salt Lake, near me. I could not help but think that our fathers fought and died for exactly this - the freedom to speak and to assemble, to challenge power and to dissent. It is always We the People who are the most powerful guardians of democracy - not a bunch of squeaky tanks. It was the best possible celebration of the founding of the American Army by that ragtag group of patriots who first shouldered their muskets and declared “No Kings.”
