Maine residents agree with keeping trans athletes out of girls' and women's sports, poll shows

As Maine has come under fire over its transgender athlete policies, a new poll showed most residents agree that biological males shouldn't compete against girls and women.

The survey came as the Trump administration’s deadline for the state to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive order to bar biological males from girls’ and women’s sports came. Maine refused to comply with the order and the Health and Human Services’ Office of Civil Rights referred the state’s "noncompliance with Title IX" to the Justice Department.

The poll showed that 64% of Maine residents believe transgender athletes "definitely should not" or "probably should not" participate in girls’ and women’s sports. Only 29% of Maine residents believed that transgender athletes "probably should" or "definitely should" compete against girls and women in sports.

If Mainers don’t approve, they can petition to hold a referendum to repeal Maine’s Human Rights Act.

There are so few trans women athletes that they can be managed on a case-by-case basis. The Genital Obsessed Party, however, needs to leave them alone.
 
This is clearly the most pressing issue facing America. How can anything else be fixed until this is resolved?

It supplies most of the military sea going vessels and they do it on time and usually below contrct cost. The only other ship yard in the US capable of this size ship is in Mississippi and they are never on time and always way over contract cost. Bath Iron Works was just awarded a contract for 7 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. Taking the contracted ships away from them might result in some serious blow back. You may have noticed some Maine people resisting bullying: Margaret Chase Smith, Senator Angus King, Governor Janet Mills.

On the other hand we elected the pre Trump asshole Paul LePage .......... sigh....... you may be right.

Yet….you believe it is pressing enough to respond. You do realize that this IS an issue and it WILL only increase. The female athletes in Maine should not have to compete against a male. Period.

I am good with you not believing in young woman working years to be successful in their athletic career only to be forced to compete with biological males. Of course I would want better for my daughters. And I would like to believe other parents would want better for their daughters as well.
 
The Maine polls pretty much matches the national polls, Gallup 69% of all Americans think that transgenders should only play on teams that match their birth gender, 26% say transgenders should be able to play on teams that match their identity.

In a more recent poll, all Americans 79% said biological males who identify as women should not be allowed to participate in women’s sports. 67% of Democrats said transgender athletes should not be allowed to compete with women with 94% of Republicans stating transgender athetes should not be allowed to complete with women.

Seems even a good size majority of Democrats believe biaological males, transgenders shouldn't be able to particpate in girls or womans sports.

Trump did not win in Maine. So why do you think Fox should focus on something that people already know about?

Seems silly that YOU would choose to focus on that, when it is more understandable to focus on the poll indicating despite disliking Trump, most Maine participants in the poll agree... no males in female sports.

Imagine being a young woman that has worked years to be relevant in your sport, only to have a biological male being allowed to compete and dominate that sport. Or even worse, cause an injury because of their strength.
Maine has spoken, now their Governor needs to actually listen to her constituents
