Today was supposed to be a day to honor our armed forces and our flag. It was intended as a day for reflection, reverence, and gratitude. June 14 is also Donald Trump’s 79th birthday, so instead of reverence or anything good, for that matter, the day has been hijacked, co-opted by a cult of personality, turned into a grotesque celebration of criminality and authoritarianism.

Everyone not MAGA knew this celebration had really nothing to do with the military or respect for them, this was about one person... Trump feeding his own ego.

Unfortunately both sides have been guilty in recent years of political theatre, but using the military for political stunts like a birthday parade, or goading military personnel into partisan cheering and booing, as also happened recently, is a totally new and gross line that has been crossed by Trump and MAGA.

I don't blame the military for any of this. This is Trump and MAGA being typically deplorable, end stop.
