This is something that many people don't understand.

Tim Cook explains why Apple manufactures in China. It's not because of cheap labor, it's because that's where the expertise is.

In the US, we don't emphasize the right kinds of education imo. That is one reason we have so many young people with college loan debt and not enough income to pay it off.

And now we have a president who attacks educational institutions and wants to kick out foreign students who may end up staying and contributing to our society once they've achieved their educational goals.

Brilliant moves by the administration

They might be smart moves, for what trump wants to accomplish. My working theory is that he's creating as much chaos as possible in an attempt to become a dictator. He's already managed to harm the worldwide economy. And he has purged his party of anyone smart enough and brave enough to say "no." Congress already tried, and failed, to take back their right to levy tariffs.

My connection to this stuff is through NIH, as I'm very close to an NIH employee and know what has happened (so far). Musk's initial purge was the equivalent of saying, "Everyone with last names beginning with A-G, pack your stuff up and get out." Zero thought given to ending up with a functioning department in the end. Funding immediately frozen to research and trials. In science, you can't survive a layoff and come back where you left off if and when the money starts flowing again. It's like not watering a garden for a month or two.

It’s something that just doesn’t make sense. On one hand, there’s Trump, stating that he wants to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States. He’s pressuring CEO’s through tariffs to try to do just that.

But if one stops to think for a minute about the companies building goods here, they don’t just come up with products out of thin air. It takes engineers and designers and technical experts, entire R&D departments, to improve technologies and efficiencies.

Yet the same guy who is pushing for domestic manufacturing and production is the one going after colleges, eliminating grants, making it difficult for students to attend college, and tearing down the Department of Education. You’d think that at least one of these CEO’s would be able to get it through Trump’s head that their companies still rely on educated people to keep their products improving, and that an uneducated population puts them behind the rest of the world.

I guess not. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Those smarty pants dogooders and scientists need to bend the knee to King Trump.
They know the new rules!
