Loyalty test for teachers.

I am guessin' all of them thar kids will grow up to be Oakies from Muskogee.

What a dumb decision on Oklahoma's part. It's none of the state's business what anyone's personal beliefs are unless it interferes with their job.
It is Oklahoma after all. Dumb is what they do.

Oklahoma superintendent for public instruction Ryan Walters is a piece of work.

He is a perfect autocrat in the making.

At an Oklahoma State Board of Education meeting last month, board members pushed Walters on the legal merits of the assessment, and asked to let the board review and approve it before its release. Walters declined.

Walters said he believes that he has legal authority to order and administer the test, but did not provide an explanation for the claim.

Asked by CNN who will oversee and make sure that the assessments are being taken and passed, he said bluntly: “It’s up to me.”

“Every teacher that teaches in the state of Oklahoma will have to have a certificate that goes through my office. It has my signature on it. So that those will not move forward until this is done,” Walters added.

Since his signature goes on every teaching certificate, he believes he, and he alone, gets to decide what criteria will be assessed to get a certificate. The board of education and anyone else who questions his authority can pound sand.

MAGA!

If we teach different versions of history and civics depending on which states we live in, the consequences on our national unity, our sense of national values and identity cannot be overstated. The partisan division and tribalism will be baked into our young people.

Everything becomes a red state/blue state culture war for generations. This is actually a very very big deal.

Dear Oklahoma Teachers,

Virginia is hiring. If you don't want to deal with the crazies, give us a look.

Located on the eastern seaboard, we have great mid-Atlantic weather. Four seasons with chilly winters (but not to chilly) and gorgeous summers and if you come all the way over to the coast we have ocean in the Tidewater area.

You will probably get get a pay raise from what I hear which will look attractive long term for retirement.

Oh, and we don't have tornados. Though we do get the occasional hurricane, we get mostly shielded from the worst by North Carolina. And just remember, hurricanes don't sneak up on you with no warning like tornados.

Qualified teachers will have no problem finding a job especially if you are Math, Science or SPED.

So if you don't want to deal with bullshyte, we're hiring.

I think that's the intent here. To make sure their personal beliefs stay their personal beliefs. Part of Oklahoma's education issues are because Ok is a poor state and pays it's teacher lower than most.

Republicans love themselves some political correctness

Dear Oklahoma teachers,

NJ has teaching positions available. And we are ranked near the top in education in the US.

Come on down! You don’t need to deal with MAGA bullshit. There are states that still believe in educating students

Hey!!!! Stop that.

I'm already recruiting for Virginia.

Isn't there some soft-core porn Ryan Walters can be looking at?

Spend a little less time taking a state already ranked #48 in education, yet trying to find a new low down at the bottom where Alabama is now.

The job of teachers is to teach facts and encourage discussion about real facts.
Oklahoma is right to keep teachers out of the classroom who are Progressives, Leftists, DEI supporters, and anti-American.
They have the authority to test teachers to make sure their goals are not to spread Anti-American bullshit DEI ideology and CRT beliefs in the classroom.
Teachers must focus on making sure students can read, write, and comprehend subjects that prepare them to function in this increasingly complicated world.

And that increasingly complicated world will be full of folks with opposing ideas, agendas, there will be trans and gays, progressives, leftists, DEI and all sorts of other things out there: those are real facts worthy of discussion.

But you want the kids to be totally unprepared for the world: you are building them up to lose.

You want to bring religion in as mandatory, you want to do away with any scientific knowledge that doesn't fit the MAGA worldview, you have areas in the US trying to pass laws to ban books out of schools that teach how to deal with puberty...you guys want your own indoctrination that will set America back and poorly prepare our kids for the future.

Bad idea, obviously.

Just like I work hard to understand all of the nuances of this crazy world, I want teachers to also be aware of what children need to learn.

I went to Catholic schools for nine and years and avoid becoming a religious zealot. I learned to think for myself. Teachers must teach children to think for themselves.

And that mean teaching students how to write, read, and comprehend what they are reading.

It's not at all telling that your "think for themselves" rests on excluding subjects from the curriculum.

I suggest that any teacher who says Obama's tan suit was anything but a fashion triumph be fired instantly and banned from any job in the public sector.
