Louisiana's John Bel Edwards wins reelection to remain Deep South's only Democratic governor

Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards overcomes Trump push to win in La.

"You've got to give me a big win, OK?" Trump told the crowd.

"I need you to send a message to the corrupt Democrats in Washington," Trump said Thursday during a rally in Bossier City.

A narrow win is still a win!
 
Is this a warning sign of things to come in a years time? Not a good indicator for those looking to ride Trumps shrinking coat tails.
 
Amazing how Trump makes EVERYTHING about him. And his supporters don't see it, or care the man is a dangerous selfish, narcissist conman who only cares about himself. If he loses in 2020 he will turn on his base and supporters and blame them, and I can't wait to see their reaction..

Anyway in the Kentucky governor race when talking about Bevin losing....Trump said “You can’t let that happen to ME!”... Now the LA race? 'Got to give ME a win..OK?'

Well, I guess HE'S 0-2...

Duke ran unsuccessfully for the Louisiana State Senate, United States Senate, United States House of Representatives, and for Governor of Louisiana.

Medicaid expansion is a winning issue for Dems. (Doesn't hurt to have Trump drop in and make elections a referendum on him and on impeachment--he should keep doing that!)

What bothers me is that this race became nationalized. I so tire of the media turning every race into a national affair just because trump has to make every race about himself.

I read your sour grapes reply. Yes, J.B.E. is a Democrat but a conservative Democrat. All that means is that the Democratic Party has a big tent. You won't find a liberal Republican in the country. Why? Because they were all run out of the GOP because the GOP has numerous litmus tests -- one has to be anti-abortion; anti-gun restriction - even if some make sense; believe that tax-cuts cure all economic ills and for the last two years, you have to bow down and grovel before Trump, who is an embarrassment and a national security threat.

The fact that the Democrats handily won in Louisiana, after Trump and the GOP pulled out all the stops for Eddie Rispone, with Trump campaigned for Rispone twice in the final two weeks of the race, warning Louisiana voters that a loss would reflect poorly on his presidency. Rispone embraced the president and his agenda and lost in the State that Trump won in 2016. You really can't marginalize the defeat.

This is the second state where Democrats won defending expanded Medicaid, that Republicans want to slice out of Obamacare.
 

Did I say the whole state? However, being from Texas and having traveled to Louisiana I've experienced the raw racism in Louisiana...

Maybe it will be like Kentucky and it'll be a victory for them because they won dog catcher or some other minor office.
 

Most of Duke's ideas are mainstream Republican ideas now. The GOP is basically the white man's party.

Previous Republican governor Jindal almost destroyed the state. Left it with $2 bil of debt. Edwards brought it back, just another example of a Republican using tax cuts and failed 'trickle down' to destroy a country's or state's economy and a democrat having to fix the economic mess a Republican left.

2. Yes, the South is certainly changing. (Georgia, for example, may soon get its first Democratic woman governor.)


3. The future does, indeed, belong to the Dems.

4. President Trump's influence and rhetoric skills are far less than he thinks.

5. Yes, it bodes ill for his reelection chances (especially since more non-citizen voters will turn out. Because of the impeachment farce, they have become more brazen).

No party fits my views 100%. Plus the second amendment isn't going away any time soon, so I doubt they are coming for my pistol. I am not worried at all.
