Looks like we have a new disabled little kitty in our lives

Slight glimmer of hope. Upon working back legs and observing behavior outside of that over days, he has had some leg positioning and tension certain ways that seem there may be some nerve response happening, along with the tail that seems to have some movement.

I've been working and paying attention; and seems something is connecting, and not just 'returning to position'.

May be wishful thinking.
Not counting on it, but... come on Little Dan!

Here's hoping.

So Dan is starting to settle in a little and get more comfortable. Does a little purring and pawed at my fingers earlier. Wants to play.
Starting to crawl around the couch while he's up there with me for a little exploring.

Did get some tail movement earlier, whether involuntary or not, seems to point to something is connected back to there!

Finally got him to ly in his little chair without flipping out. Not quite getting around yet though. Not sure about things and gotta get those legs used to standing I'd say.

He needs to get a little bigger, and maybe you should think about a cart with only two wheels. That one would have to be a little difficult for the kitty to steer. But it probably will serve to get him used to the concept.

Yeah, he needs a little more size and strength for sure. And I had at first made a 2-wheeled version, but certainly wasn't going to work for him at present. Just wanted something at the moment to get him used to the idea, and move him about a bit. Going to work on designing a good chair. Probably something that can be 4 wheels with 2 able to turn with change of direction, or converted to two.

Like a shopping cart? NO! I don't believe I've ever used one that had four working wheels.

So as some know, this kitten showed itself to us at a certain moment. For those that don't...

Just some backstory. Our Yorkie had balance issues from birth. Something they could never figure out. Did well, but would occasionally go off balance. She could fall over and jump right back up like "what?".:)

Such a strange coincidence.

.....It's a new chapter.... let's go there.

Took new kitty to vet today. 1 whole pound. X-rays show that it looks congenital, and say the spine is still growing into shape. But no noticable pain response on the back legs when she gave a good little pinch. But he was already meowing, so?

Say there is a  very slim chance of gaining function with a bit of age. Certainly not getting any hopes up on it for sure.
She 'offered the alternative', and nope. If he has a shot at this point of being loved, and enjoying life that's where we're at.

Definitely going to be some work and specific care involved. Working limbs, 'bathroom needs', cleaning. I'm in.

3d printing a simple little wheelchair available online at the moment while I design something to my liking. He deserves to walk here and there and not drag himself.

So everyone, meet Lt. Dan. Yes, I went there. It just popped in my head when wife ask what we were gonna name.:)

Thank you!

Too choked to write more

😂 It's gonna be well thought out and functional. No wobbly wheel!

Good. Apparently idiots build shopping carts. They include those toddler seat belts that seldom fail to hook on the other carts when you're trying to extract one from a row of them smashed together.

You have such a huge heart. This is awesome.

Kudos to you and your wife CFoN!

A few years ago a kitten appeared in our backyard. We put a food bowl down and it came right over. Very friendly. No tags. We took it in. That kitten has gown up to be a beautiful male 18# orange Maine Coon that we named Pookie.

The best cat we've ever had. Best of luck with your new kitten!

Funny how they find  you, isn't it? :)

Just seeing this thread. Much respect to you and your wife. I love animal lovers, and you both are very kind to help this little sweetie. 🩵

Dan likes to be snuggled in blankets and spots he feels safe. He is also called Little Dan and Little Guy.:)
Cuddles in a little spot on the couch by me, or in his cage blanky.

His little chair which I just downloaded online and printed ATM until. Rudimentary and cobbled until I design/work out something perfect for him. But getting him used to being placed in something while he fusses, and getting those legs used to walking and not dragging.
Got him in it a minute here and there, slowly moving while he works those legs. Gonna take a while and a lot of work. But gonna do my best.
Determined to have this guy be able to walk around and explore in some fashion. He deserves it.
Yes, it's Bengals colors.😁

He is precious, thanks for posting these photos and the updates. Great that you can work on using a chair to help little Dan. Hugs all around.

Thank you for the kind words. If one didn't do what they could for a poor little guy such as him, I would question if they even had a heart.

Got him in it a few minutes again last night, and he moved around a little bit. Still unsure about things, but slowly warming to the idea I think.
And he's starting to want to play more! Had him cuddled on my shoulder while lying on the couch(his favorite spot, nuzzled by my neck), and he tried to attack my ear!😆

Move fingers around in front of him, and it's attack mode! So adorable.

Look at those "What Is This?" eyes. 😂

Got Dan out with me in my shed 'mancave' hangout for a little exploring. Rowdy!

He can hunch that back and get himself around like nothing!
Discovered his tail that moves!

Inspiring to see. Can't bring him down! When you get lemons...

He's getting around like nothing. Quick too! Him and Cali are warming to each other, and he's ready to play.
And he has had some actual leg movement going on. Not anything significant, But I can tell it's voluntary. Time will tell.
