Regulars here will no doubt agree with me that I have, for sometime, been arguing that if the GOP takes control of the House in November they will begin the process of investigating Hunter Biden's finances as a way of determining if Joe Biden has been involved in pay-for-access or influence peddling schemes. I know have to acknowledge I was dead wrong.

The GOP isn't even waiting for November.

House Republicans Seek Information on Hunter Biden’s Finances

WASHINGTON—Republicans on the House Oversight Committee are laying the groundwork for a probe into Hunter Biden’s finances, part of efforts to keep the president’s son in the spotlight ahead of midterm elections.

The top Republican on the committee on Wednesday sent letters to numerous banks and the Treasury Department requesting more information about Hunter Biden and his associates. The letters, viewed by The Wall Street Journal, ask for financial records.

The probe has no Democratic support, and House Republicans have no enforcement powers. But should Republicans win House control in November, as many polls suggest, they would gain the power to hold hearings and issue subpoenas.

Lawmakers involved said the requests for information are a sign of where the GOP will focus its investigative authority.

“We’re definitely laying the groundwork to come out of the gate in January,” said Rep. James Comer (R., Ky.), the ranking Republican on the oversight committee.
The White House declined to comment on the prospective probe into Hunter Biden’s business dealings.

Mr. Comer said investigating whether President Biden had any links with his son’s business dealings would be a priority. Hunter Biden hasn’t been charged with any criminal activity.
...

Mr. Comer said that while the Senate investigation revolved around Burisma, the House GOP probe would be broader. “We’re investigating everything,” he said.

Mr. Comer said his probe would look at what the president’s son has done since President Biden took office in January 2021, specifically with the undisclosed buyers of Hunter Biden’s art and Hunter Biden’s work in 2017 to help CEFC China Energy Company Limited, a now-defunct Shanghai energy and financial business that pursued projects around the world. Sens. Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) and Johnson recently released bank records tracking these transactions.

...

In letters sent Wednesday morning to several banks where Hunter Biden and Biden family members have accounts, Mr. Comer requested any possible records, documents, and communications related to potential suspicious-activity reports,or SARs, generated for Hunter Biden, his business partners, and members of the Biden family.
Mr. Comer also wrote Wednesday to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen asking for suspicious-activity reports, generated in connection with Hunter and James Biden, the president’s brother, if they exist.

Forget all these investigations. The people need to figure out that it is the parties that are corrupt and we support this corruption by electing these criminals. Does it really matter which criminal wins the election? Pretty soon the government will be counting our votes not We the People and telling us who won just like in Russia. Close the polls and send all the ballots to the government to count. Then we won't have to worry about investigations. As it is now the 2 corrupt parties are investigating corruption. What a joke. And we are the brunt of the joke.

I would take them seriously if their concerns also reflected back on their own party.
Democrats control the committees. Looks like they arent concerned about their own party either.

Solution:
1) Root out criminals, wrongdoing, malfeasance, bribes, corruption, and BRING CHARGES.
2) Stop voting for crooked incumbents, or term limits.
3) End anonymous super pac donors, lobbyist monies, unlimited campaign war chests, etc.
4) Hold people accountable.

Both parties have serious problems. Of this, there is no doubt.

We have a two-party system because it was set up as winner takes all. Deal with the world you live in and not the alt-reality that most of this forum inhabits.

A letter requesting financial information? Expect a 'pound sand' reply.
They would be a good reply from the Republican perspective.

Neither party is.

Unfortunately, those in the party are usualy too myopic to see it. Even if they did, would they be motivated to fix anything, especially when the other party is sure to use it for ammunition?

Seems like they'd better push it while people still remember. How many more years do they need to extract the damning information we all know is in there, way way in the back?

I assume they have the Cyber Ninjas on the case.

Sounds good but most people treat politics like the Super Bowl. They don't care what their side does as long as their side wins. The rich and powerful use their media and fund both parties keeping us fighting each other while the government keeps them wealth and in power. I guess the first thing we need to do is figure out a way to fix stupid. Then fix us first.

These are accusations made based on a soggy laptop and a willful misunderstanding of how foreign policy works.
Its Hunters laptop and we know how foreign policy works. Your point is simply you dont care because he is on your team. If Hunters last name were Trump, you would be all over this story.

They got rid of Trump who was clearly not a bought and paid for party puppet. Now, all the parties are doing is entertaining us sheep with these go nowhere investigations. The parties do the investigating. Do you really believe they will punish themselves?

Thats the benefit of having two parties. Since they wont police their own, the other side has to do it.

What public office does hunter biden occupy?

Good luck in the gop's 'investigation', you're gonna' need it. The government doesn't have anything better to do than look into the finances of a private citizen? Is this really at the top of the to do list for the gop? How will this 'investigation' help the majority of americans?

Revenge is a good plank for the gop to run upon, it fits right in with their amazing ability to hate others.

Lol, uh huh.

We can’t determine with any real certainty what is and isn’t real on the laptop. It is a political tool.. not an investigative one.

If the laptop was real.. and showed real criminality then fire Hunter Biden into the sun.

But the way it was laundered into being was so sloppy that there should be no trust as to the contents.

If they cared about Jared Kushner getting a couple Billion from the Saudis then I would take them seriously.
