Lets see the usual suspects defend this.
Photographing a fire station from the street and some military trucks that can also be clearly seen from the street is not a crime or suspicious.

The cop, who is a supervisor and a sergeant, actually came across as not only ignorant of the laws but as a slightly stupid person...

This is one of those incidents where the cop needs to personally pay the fine, for damaged camera equipment, etc. AND NOT THE CITY TAXPAYERS.

His entire argument seemed to be that because he wanted someone's ID they had to provide it and that's it.
If he thinks you're suspicious then you are and if you don't ID you're going to jail.

Is that state even a stop and ID state and if so surely you still need to have some suspicion of committing a crime as otherwise he can just scoop up anyone he hiles whenever he likes.

Not sure... all I do know is that, even when it is legal, stop and ID'ing people who have no broken a law leads to more negative interactions than anything else. Politicians need to change these stupid laws... they remind people of the Gestapo. We are supposed to be free to move, use our eyes, speak, protest, etc.

It just seems stupid to have cops pulling people for taking photo's of public buildings.
Do they think everyone is a terrorist?
Surely a terrorist would be slightly more covert than standing on the street for hours where he himself can be photo'd?

I have been to military bases like that and taken pictures and never had a problem. I just don't understand why cops try to make an issue out of taking pictures like this. Obviously all this stuff is open for anybody to see that is driving by and most of it you can even see from Google Maps, as I go after these videos sometimes and see for myself... right there on the world wide web. Know what I saw yesterday on google maps? This:

What are those things sitting right there in Honolulu?

In the UK we have people who spend all day taking photo's outside military bases to take photo's of the aircraft comming and going and then putting it online.
You can do this outside US bases even when the newest stealth aircraft visits.

There's also about a million video's online taken on the Mach Loop military training area of all sorts of aircraft from all over the world as it's one of the few ultra low level test areas.

If I can freely take a picture of a billion dollar stealth aircraft why is it a national security issue if I take a picture of a random fire station?

"This day and age"

That line kinda bugs me... some wackos targeted cops for a few years but cops say that line as if we are in a new era of police assassinations and they are fortressed inside these bunker police stations just waiting to be attacked... buy a guy taking some pictures, as if all the coming and going can't be surveilled in some less conspicuous and more effective manner.

No I am not condoning what the cops did, but cops are still being targeted as we speak.

This was not even 3 weeks ago, in Australia, 2 cops killed in cold blood.

This was in October

Not targeted, but two cops killed less than 3 weeks ago

A Canadian officer ambushed not even a week ago.

1 in 10 teachers have been attacked... I bet that is a higher proportion than cops.

Teachers are not claiming that 'in this day and age' and attacking kids with the justification that the teacher was fearful.

They should be! Besides, in today's age where teachers are constantly questioned about what and how they are teaching, and have zero appreciation shown to them, why would anyone want to go into that profession?

I wish that you gave me this speech 20 years ago!!

2021 was the deadliest year for police officers on record.

Because of covid.

I just find it interesting that the same people flying the "thin blue line" flags are the ones most likely to have not given a shit about spreading covid everywhere and killing all those cops.

Is there any polls or stats or studies to back up that claim?

Isn't it just common sense? Conservatives back cops almost without fault. Conservatives are the majority of those refusing vaccinations.

In a debate, we have to back up our claims with facts. If we don't, claims are nothing more than conjecture.
