"More Americans are facing stretches of unemployment of six months or more, a worrisome sign for the U.S. economy. More than 1 in 4 workers without jobs have been unemployed for at least half a year, new data shows. That number is a post-pandemic high and a level typically only seen during periods of economic turmoil.

In all, more than 1.9 million Americans had been unemployed “long term” in August, meaning they have been out of work for 27 weeks or more, a critical cliff when it comes to finding a job. That’s more than double the 1 million people who were in a similar position in early 2023.

...The pickup in months-long unemployment coincides with broader cooling in the labor market. Although the overall unemployment rate, 4.3 percent, is near longtime lows, many employers have frozen hiring as they wait to see how new tariffs and other economic policies will affect business. Layoffs are rising, too, with weekly claims for unemployment insurance reaching the highest level since October 2021."

Bringing back the good old days, I guess.

"More than 260,000 Americans filed initial unemployment claims last week, the highest level in four years, according to data released Thursday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

"This is a sign of the deepening social crisis confronting the U.S. working class, driven increasingly by the trade war measures of the Trump administration and the use of AI to slash jobs."

According to Challenger, Gray, & Christmas the latest layoff figures are only the tip-of-the-iceberg: with more massive layoffs on the way:

  • "1,000 at grocery giant Kroger’s technology and digital team. One worker posted to thelayoff.com: 'The big bosses, Yael the CIO and Rana the Senior HR Director, couldn’t even bother to show up live for the announcement. Nope, they dropped a pre-recorded video on everyone like it was a bad Zoom prank. 'Hey team, you’re fired—cut! That’s a wrap!'
  • Oil and gas producer ConocoPhillips is cutting up to one quarter of its global workforce, equal to around 3,200 jobs. 'These layoffs aren’t going to end,' one worker wrote on thelayoff.com. 'They say the end of 2027 but let’s face it. All of us will slowly be phased out up until 2030.'"

thank goodness trump renamed DOD to department of war, costing billion(s). And extended tax breaks primarily benefiting the top income earners. Its almost as if trump is an egotistical economic moron who is pandering to his base.

Trump, the epitome of "dont care, had sex, became president", doesn't care
