Why don't you guys share your favorite boxer with a little backstory and why you think that way. You can also post some exceptional combinations or knockouts of said boxer.

George Forman - Because of his brutal knockout power and the amazing story of his 2nd career, his comeback to become the heavyweight champ once again at the age of 45. The sheer power of Foreman was out of this world. And he has a chin made of Texas granite. Amazing the punishment he took from Holyfield (something like 17 unawsered punches in a row) and miraculously he stood tall. These punches that forman absorbed would have easily knocked out some of the other heavyweight contenders. Not to mention, the Ron Lyle fight was incredible as well. Forman was floored twice and still came back to win. Heart of a Lion, that's for sure.

One of my favorite fights is that of Foreman vs Cooney. It only went two rounds, but the KO at the end is wicked. .

 



Sugar Ray Leonard

Maybe because I read his biography: The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring

Unlike a lot of boxers, first thing he got a business manager who incorporated him. When his family members wanted jobs he put them on the corporate payroll and wrote it off his taxes.

Rocky Marciano.

Undefeated, could tank a punch like no other in history, and would literally win by deliberately taking blows in order to set up and deliver a decisive KO because he was that tough a bastard, steam rolling his opponent like he didn't give a ****, 88% knockout rate out of 49 total fights. Underrated legend of the sport.

A man more than a great boxer.
 
Morales for me.

A true warrior, he was in so many great fights, in his prime he was like a boxing machine. Always gave the fans their money's worth. If one round could sum up what kind of boxer he was, here he is switching to lefty against a guy boxing historian Bert Sugar claims is the greatest southpaw of all time:

I always liked Michael Spinks - he always seemed like the underdog who somehow managed to pull off an big upset (well, until Tyson anyway *L*). I've always thought the Light Heavyweight division was the most underrated in Boxing - it seems to me that's where you get the right balance between speed and power... and Spinks was probably one of the best Light Heavies of all time.

Here is an underrated fight between Peter McNeely and Mike Tyson. It was over quickly, but the action was good from both boxers while it lasted.

Diego Corrales vs Jose Luis Castillo for the lightweight championship in 2005 was fight of the year & in my mind
fight of the decade. It's probably on Youtube.
 
My 3 favorite fighters are the 3 best I ever saw in the ring Roberto Duran, Ray Robinson & Salvatore Sanchez.

My grandmother was Scottish & Ken Buchanan was the only champ from scotland so I rooted for him when he
defended his lightweight title against Duran in the 70's. It was only Duran's 2nd fight in America. Buchanan
was the favorite Duran was 28-0 against relative unknowns. Duran was an animal in that fight he won every round
until he knocked down Buchanan in the 14 th round, Buchanan could of gotten up but was so throughly beaten up
he didn't.

Duran went on & was 70 wins 1 loss when he beat Leonard in 1980. His only loss was a close one to De Jesus
& in their rematch Duran lnocked De Jesus out. Then came the 'no mad' fight when he was so frustrated by
Leonard's tactics he quit. Duran went on & though not the fighter he was as a lightweight redeemed himself
and knocked out Davy Moore to win the 154 lb. title & a few years later won the middleweight title from
Iran Barkley in his late 30's. Barkley was the uncle of the NY Giant star running bak Saquan Barkley.

When I was in grade school my dad took me to Yankee Stadium to see Ray Robinson beat Carmen Basilio,
saw Sugar Ray on TV many times. He was a big favorite, so fluid in his moves .

Maybe the best was Salvator Sanchez who I think was 23 years old when he died in an auto accident.
His fights against Red Lopez gained him stardom but when Wilfredo Gomez at 47-0, 46 KO's was the betting favorite
when Gomez challenged Sanchez for the featherweight title Sanchez remarked before the fight he couldn't
believe Gomez was considered the betting favorite. In a one sided fight he knocked out Gomez quickly.

Jack Johnson defeats Stanley Ketchel and pulls two of his teeth out of his glove at the end of the fight :shock:

 

Possibly the craziest 3 rounds ever ?
 

I'm still bitter about the Hagler fight.

That was a crazy time. Having Leonard, Hearns, Hagler and Duran all fighting at the same time. Anytime one of those was fighting another, you had a fight worth watching.

I agree , the KO of Duran by Hearns around the same time was spectacular
