Ok. This kind of video and incident is demonstrating why there is so much anger against the police in many communities right now. I am sure it is not every place, or even most, but that it happens at all is a disgrace to our country. Some police had a teenage kid in a restraining chair (i.e. he couldn't resist even if he wanted to), and kept on tasering him over and over again. This is torture.

What can we do to control the police so these abuses of power do not happen, or at least happen much less?

Sue them when they act wrongly.

the fact that someone somewhere was somehow wronged by the police does not justify trying to grab a police officers gun when you're high and in the process of escaping from a robbery you committed, or drawing down on a police officer, or wandering the streets high on PCP refusing officer commands and putting your hands inside a vehicle.
 
When they are convicted they should serve the fullest penality of the law. They are trusted to uphold it and there should be no liency for them. They should be held to the higest standard not the lowest.

In this kind of case, it should be more than just sued.. Torture is illegal you know. And, doign this kind of action will increase the anger of the communities, and put more police officers at risk.
 
Wait, I thought only black lives mattered (according to a few conservatives around here), you people definitely aren't supposed to be talking about police brutality unless the victim is black.

The way I see it, while a lot of the victims are black, it's the 'canary the coal mind'.. it is just that the black community gets affect first and more frequently, but the attitudes and issues affect us all.
 
What's the punishment for violating the 8th amendment?

That isn't really sufficient because it's not the officers who behaved wrongly who are being punished. It's the taxpayers in that community footing the bill. The officers involved should be brought up on criminal charges, and if there is a lawsuit, they should be required to pay for it out of their own pockets.


What does any of this have to do with the topic at hand? The kid involved did none of those things, and no one in this thread mentioned those things or said they were alright because this incident happened.

So, for violating the bill of rights, the officer should get compensation? Or do you mean the victim?

If someone breaks the law, commits a crime, they should be held accountable, yes?

Some sort of National Service Medal isn't it? That's what most of the gang in the Bush Administration received for their role in torture.

Torture is very much accepted in this country since then, as the video in this thread demonstrates.
