LOL....

"My Dinner with Adolf".....great title, great portrait of the star-struck Maher.

Thanks for bringing this here.

It's amazing how clueless Bill Maher still is in reacting to the Larry David essay. What was the point of Maher's dinner with Trump? Was he going to try to persuade the president of the error of his ways? You might have some hope of that with either of the Bushes, or say, Dole, McCain or Romney if they had won election. But this is Trump and his MAGA collection of clowns and sycophants - full-on white nationalists. So apparently he went just to try to discover the human side of Trump. According to Maher, Trump laughed, sometimes at himself, and was affable and self-deprecating.

So Trump is human. So what? No one thought either he or Adolf Hitler were robots or shape-shifting alien lizards. Hitler liked dogs, Hollywood movies, pastry and small talk with his retinue. Trump likes golf, watching TV, Big Macs and hanging out with his billionaire buddies. Who knows, maybe Stalin collected stamps or Pol Pot liked ice cream. That doesn't change the fact of their horrendous policies or their deliberate cruelty.

Maher said you can't, or shouldn't, compare anyone to Hitler because of the enormous scope of his crimes against the Jews and others. But you can and should, because Trump, like these monsters of the past, is a human being who spends much of his time denying the humanity of others. For Hitler, his scapegoat was primarily the Jews, although he detested Slavs and all non-whites too. For Trump, it is the immigrants, whom he portrays as rapists, murderers and gang members. He says they are "poisoning the blood" of our nation, in perfect Great Replacement Theory-speak. Both Hitler and Trump have exploited bigotry and hatred to rise to power. For both men, cruelty is the point of the policies they pursue against these perceived enemies of the state.
