"Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Tuesday that the entire border wall along the southern border with Mexico is going to be painted black to make it hotter and deter illegal immigration — and she credited President Trump with the idea.

Noem spoke during a visit to a portion of the wall in New Mexico, where she also picked up a roller brush to help out with the painting."

The statement of motive sounds like simple trolling. Migrants usually cross at night anyway, don't they? The Post says it would increase the wall's durability, which sounds like a far more plausible motive. The images we see already have a fair amount of rust visible.

I'm still amazed that Mexicans never made an industry of hauling it away in sections and melting it down for scrap metal. Their government can't stop them, and in the past the U.S. government wouldn't have pursued them past the border. Now, I don't know.

I would think drones would eliminate the need to a wall. But a wall is the perfect symbol for this administration hell bent on building fortresses and prisons.

What's the tariff on steel again? That wall is gonna make America broke for generations. And it's gonna make the steel industries in Canada and Mexico boom. Say, is there import duties on paint? How many feet of a thirty-foot steel wall will a gallon cover?

This administration is operating on the premise that American people are idiots that can be told any lie, no matter how stupid.
 
Once you go black, they have to go back.

Painting it black won't make it hotter than rust. I've worked on weathering-steel bridges that were so hot you couldn't kneel on it for long. Fried an egg on one- it took awhile but the egg cooked.

I have seen water boil in a junkyard (El Paso) and questioned if I really needed that part today. Do not worry (says people in the south) it's a dry heat.

Paint tunnels on it so Mexicans keep bumping up against it like flies on a windowpane.
