Knowing when to say goodbye

Thank you. I fell in love with that dog back when my brother first got him.
It’s easy to see why…he has very loving eyes.

(and I openly admit to being a TOTAL softie for labs/lab mixes. The breed is just awesome in general. Some of the most loyal and loving and big hearted dogs)

Today was the day I had to let my pup go. I feel the loss but glad he's not suffering any moreView attachment 67538417
I am so sorry.

You know you've made the right decision - the one that is in your beloved companion's best interest - but the pain, the grief, the sense of loss are overwhelming.

My heart goes out to you.

I never considered them until this dog came into my life. I think I'll forever have a soft spot for them too

That's kind of you. I think I waited until now so I didn't feel guilty. I don't. The poor guy was in bad shape. Still missing him though.

He was smart too.

Sorry for your loss, it's like losing a family member. Perhaps wait a respectful time and look for another 4 legged friend to love.

Always the hardest decision. Sorry for your loss.
Thank you. It wasn't really a hard decision the poor pup was not happy and the past 2 days he had deteriorated. It's always hard to say goodbye. But the poor guy had to unhappy. He did get a good last meal.

I feel your pain Clax. I'm a dog guy to the core. I just seem to connect with them. I love them so much I fly hundreds of miles to pick them up from shelters and take them to their forever homes

In 2015 I had to make the same choice you did. Our Sheeba was 12 years old and not sure what happened to her but I came home from work and she didn't even know me. She just stared into space and clearly distraught

I cried as she sat in the right seat of our Altima like she had done for years as we were headed to the Vet. Just staring out the window.

I held her as she took her last breath.

You did the right thing Clax. You were there for him when he needed you.

Remember the bond you had with such a wonderful creation.

The story of "Rainbow Bridge" comes to mind and I found comfort in it.

I hope it helps you as well.

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...."

Yeah it was the right decision. Thank you and I'm sorry you're pup had that issue.

But scooter gets to skip the rainbow bridge because he was my brother's dog. My bro died in 2016 he gets to go right to him.

You'll know when the time is right.
Yeah I had to pass on this beautiful Belgian malinois that was surrendered to the dog trainer. I wanted to take her so bad but I already had two dogs. There will be another that needs a home.
