Presidential adviser David Axelrod sought to deflect blame for the scandals swirling around President Obama by pointing out that “as it stands today, government is unmanageably big. The responsibilities and scope of action are so enormous that no human being or even team of humans could possibly govern effectively.”

Axelrod hastened to clarify that “I’m not joining the ranks of the ‘smaller government’ crowd. That would be irresponsible. Government has a moral obligation to meet the needs of the people. It can’t shirk this obligation just because its attainment is impossible.”

The very impossibility of the task was held to be further proof by Axelrod that “we must maintain course. The President may be scorned, but he is the only one who can be trusted to continue to push for this agenda no matter how hopeless and to strive with his last ounce of courage no matter how unreachable the goal. I can think of no one else who could replace him.”

“Failing to achieve an impossible dream is, in my opinion, much to be preferred over succeeding in a more modest endeavor,” Axelrod argued. “A glorious failure will be remembered long after a hundred modest successes are forgotten by our historians. There is no one more suitable than President Obama if our era is to be a memorable one.”

In related news, Press Secretary Jay Carney rejected comparing Obama to Nixon. “Look, Nixon wimped out,” Carney said. “He said he didn’t want to put the country through the pain of an impeachment proceeding. President Obama will not resign no matter what. He will, like President Clinton, hang tough. With a Democratic majority in the Senate there’s no way the GOP can convict him. The idea he can be held accountable is DOA.”

SEMI-NEWS: A Satire of Recent News « The Constitution Club

Hmm..., The government is too big but let's make it bigger?

Double speak for bama can't be blamed.

This administraiton can't blame Bush anymore but they can't take responsibility for anything either.

Dude, you're not helping with the flood of spam threads. Even worse, if you're now pointing to satirical references.

Sometimes satire is used to expose the truth. Obviously your idea is to follow your dear leader unquestioningly and any exposure of his incompetence and criminal actions is not in keeping with your fantasy of him. A little sunlight on the subject is truly transparency unlike Obama's lies of transparency.

Satire or not, there is some profound truth.

As population grows, so does government. There are nearly 5 million Federal employees. I can't even imagine how many state, city, county employees there are on top of which you have millions of policemen.

I'm amazed this bureaucratic organism hasn't turned on us already. They may be corrupt but at least they're benign. 2084?

I agree with Axelrod, government is so big no one can know what is going on with it. As far as government having a moral obligation to meet the needs of the people, not really. Meeting the needs of the people should start with self, then family and then community.

I would also like to inform Axelrod that trust in government vanished in the 60’s. I think Eisenhower was president the last that the majority of Americans trusted their government. Now distrust reigns and these 3 scandals are examples why.

Back in 1974 the Republicans had 42 senators plus 2 independents vs. 56 Dems. Nixon only needed 34 nay votes to avoid impeachment, but not even Republicans would stand by him come August of 1974. I am just letting Carney know if things get too bad, even senators of your own party will not stand by you if it may cost them their re-election.

Hmm..., so maybe the idea of small government as espoused by our Forefathers along with Conservatives and Libertarians isn't so wrong. Except Progressives continue to call for more government and intrusion into every American's life.
