Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry warned Friday that there are just nine years left for the U.S. to evade the worst possible climate change consequences.

During remarks at the Munich Security Conference, Kerry noted that a "group of scientists told us three years ago that we had 12 years."

"Around 2030 is the date at which we have to get the world now on the right path in order to cap the level of warming at that level of 1.5 [degrees]."

Adverse climate change is a national security issue.

I'm still undecided. The climate has always changed. Carbon dioxide levels in the Jurassic were very high, helping to grow the huge plants that the equally huge dinosaurs ate, and the world survived, albeit with some major upheval events.

I wish folks would stop putting time predictions on these things. I am of the school of thought that subscribes to the old adage, “if you shit in your own backyard enough, you will eventually step in some.”

Let it come. I put in a 14 kW propane generator when we moved here. I've seen what the weather can do. We were lucky in Cleveland we sat through a 100 mph horizontal snowcane. But when the town started giving me grief over a building permit to install it, I did some research. My suburban area has seen extended (multi-day) power outages about every 2-3 years. I have 2 big propane bottles & can exist for over a week before I need a delivery.

I took the precaution of investing in a generator that also adds to the sales value of my house. Hurricane Sandy was also a wakeup call for what the weather can do.

The people in TX with generators will obviously make out better than those without.

You know that we have been warned about the consequences of burning fossil fuels for at least 50 years without any meaningful response. Our time is up and there are no more excuses. We need to wean ourselves off fossil energy in the next decade starting with gasoline use.

There may be future ice ages but inevitably we will keep running into 100+ year events like in TX: more fires in the West, more tornados, hurricanes & violent weather in the South Central & NE.

In 1967, we were all going to die from famine by 75. In 1969, we were all going to die from pollution in 1989. In 1970 it was the pending Ice Age that was going to destroy us all in the 21st century. In 1970, we were all going t engage inwater and food rationing by 1974. In 1971 the Ice Agewas going to kill os by 2021. In 74, it was MORE pending Ice Age and it was pretty much a done deal and there was nothing we could do about it. Also in 1974, the ozone layer was essentially gone. More global cooling in 1976, plus acid rain. In 1978, there was no end in sight to global cooling. in 1988, they predicted a total midwest drought. Suddenly in 1988 The global cooling and pending ice age flipped...it was not global warming and we were all gonna die somewhere between 35-85 years. Also in 1988, the Maldives will not be one of the hottest tourist destination...they will be completely under water by 2018. In 1989 they predicted NYC would be underwater by 2019. in 2001 they predicted the UK would be uninhabitable...children would never learn what snow is. in 2002 there would be a global famine in years. in 2004 they predicted the UK would become Siberia by 2020. The arctic Ice will be gone by 2018. Remember Al Gore? In 2008 we were all gonna die...the polar ice cap would be gone by 2013 and the very last polar bear would die. In 2009...we had just 96 months to save the world...that was uo in 2017. Also in 2009, Gordon Brown said that forget about 8 years...we had fewer than FIFTY DAYS to save the planet. in 2014, there was just 500 days to avert total climate disaster.

And now...once again...we are all going to die. Seems like Kerry should have learned fromt he AGW crown. If you are going make desperate climate predictions, make them 100 years down the road.

I have often thought theaw soom and gloom predictions do more harm than good. In my life qe have gone from an impending ICE AGE to Global Warming, the Ozone hole swallowing up North America, Acid Rain killing all the crops, and probably a few I have forgotten. Crying Wolf is not the way to make meaningful progress

Its the one thing that Kerry has in common with doomsday cults. He might as well attempt to reinterpret the Mayan Calendar.

John Kerry can help save the world by getting rid of that PRIVATE JET of his.

Polar vortexes like the one that froze Texas are caused by a weakened polar jetstream that allows arctic cold down into the U.S. That weakness is caused by a warming arctic so calling the deep freeze a "100 year" event is wishful thinking. We are looking at more and more of these as well as other extreme weather events as the warming of the planet takes hold.

If you can’t see what is going on around you, I can’t help you. Everyone is operating under the premise that it’s a game of musical chairs and they think that there will be an empty chair for their well-fed behind, when the music stops....

Why do you think there is so much interest in finding life-sustaining planets within our reach?

Not much to ask for, folks. Droughts (less / no water) will bring death to crops, animals and humans faster than ice storms let alone heat strokes and heart attacks.

This is not a "prediction". The warming caused by fossil fuel carbon emissions is a scientific fact and a certainty. We stopped the Ozone depletion by banning freon and the acid rain by putting sulphur scrubbers on coal fired generator plants. Now we need to stop burning fossil fuel for our energy needs and you need to get on board with that too.

See any people around back then?

The earth will certainly survive.

It’s whether the human race will finally wise up and stop shitting where it eats that is the question.

The earth can do without humanity. We haven’t been around that long in the grand scheme of things as it is.

Cuz....we're all gonna diiiieeee....

right?

Thats why we should all submit to the UNs globalist tax and spend program to redistribute the worlds wealth. Cuz we're all gonna diiiiiieeeeeeeeeee.

You think you are going to live forever? No one is. Meanwhile stop caring only about your own life and realize this planet needs to survive after you are gone too. A carbon tax simply places the real costs of fossil energy where it belongs...with those that create it.

At some point in the future water may become more valuable than oil as demand for one increases & demand for the other decreases.

Nah, there just won’t be a chair for you when the tune stops........

You don’t have to submit to anything, just stop shitting in the backyard......

We will experience such events with ever greater frequency and increasingly greater severity.

That is also wishful thinking. There is zero chance of the human race surviving on any other planet in this solar system. If we ruin the Earth we are history. Traveling to other stars is also wishful thinking. They are way too far away.

The solutions that have been proposed are worse than the problem. And let me know when Kerry convinces the rest of these countries to get on board.

Until then, we will only be damaging ourselves for no reason.

:ROFLMAO:
We as a nation have CONSISTENTLY made growth and progress in our reductions of pollutants and continue to develop more and better types of renewable energy.

I believe you have someone shitting in your backyard...I just think you dont really want to know who it is.

:ROFLMAO:

Dood...you wont find anyone on this board that is a bigger fan of developing effective and efficient renewable energy sources. Unlike the shithead leftist Starbuck environmentalists, I'm actually out in the environment regularly and I have ALWAYS made sure I have left things better than I found them. our country has made growth and progress and continues to.

Nah...I'm not going to live forever. I figure at the current rate I'll live till I'm 90-95 so I have a LOT of living to do. What I wont do is fall for the globalist climate alarmists that are using fear tactics to convince empty headed simpletons to fall for the UN wealth redistribution scheme being run in the name of fighting climate change.

How is showing the way to the future "no reason". You do know we have the highest per person carbon emissions in the world now. How can we ask others to do what we refuse to do?

The biggest absolute emissions come from China and the United States. In terms of CO2 emissions per capita, China is ranked only ranked 47th, at 7.5 metric tonnes per capita. The US is ranked 11th at 16.5 per capita and amongst countries with sizeable populations, has the highest CO2 emissions per capita.

Really. He said a few weeks ago even if the U.S. is carbon emission neutral, 0 carbon emission. It will not matter, we can't make a difference here in the U.S. It's a fact we are already doing more than any other country, we are way stricter than the Paris Accord standards and have been for a while under the Trump administration. It's a climate hoax. Not that there are not carbon emissions but the scope and time lines, the total impact are hyped for money, the benefit of alternative energy, and control. China and Russia and India are doing nothing.
