I keep seeing this claim that Harris failed in her duties as Biden's border czar. There's a perspective that she was given the job of fixing the border problem and she failed at it. I assume those who think this is true might want to know that it's actually not true.

Harris was never put in charge of the border or made "border czar," immigration experts said. President Joe Biden tasked Harris with leading the administration's diplomatic efforts addressing the "root causes" of migration in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

Worth pointing out, but people like soundbites and immigration is the #1 issue for a lot of people, including many independents. This is probably her biggest weakness this election. My suggestion would be to say that the immigration problem has plagued both Dem and GOP administrations. Trump did not solve immigration, and he actively obstructed bipartisan efforts to help solve the problem this year because he thought it would hurt his campaign. It's time to stop the politicization of the issue and for both sides to work together to finally reform the system. Something like that.

As I recall, she was assigned to try to find ways to reduce the root causes of immigration, which is very important. I'm not aware she got anything done, which is bad. But it has nothing to do with 'border czar' and little to do with wrongly linking her to the largely false Republican attacks about the border.
 
This looks like an admission that under the Biden/Harris administration, the border is wholly fubar.
 
^^^ This is the problem with Craig putting so many of us on ignore. He makes a false assertion that is completely refuted by the post immediately before his and winds up looking quite foolish.
 

But if we're parsing words now - migration "to" the border is not "security at" the border.

Trying to address the reasons that people are fleeing their home countries would certainly play a part in "stemming the migration to" the Mexico/US border.

You should also read the article and consider carefully this passage (emphasis added):

To claim her only task was to find "root causes" is simply a lie, and either you're going to believe that lie or you are not. It's up to you.

If you can't grasp the logic that addressing the root causes for the migration would obviously reduce the amount of migration, I can't help you.

Yes, "two tracks" - short term actions and long term plans.

Keeping it “porous” is a right wing agenda. They were completely happy to shoot down the initially bipartisan bill to address the problem, and right wingers like the low prices that undocumented worked bring them. And of course they don’t do anything to address employers of undocumented workers.

Conservatives want to fix the border as much as as they want to fix the debt (not at all).

SE Cupp showered herself in crap this morning claiming that Harris was appointed border czar. Most CNN on-air talent showers itself in crap daily. So its not that rare.

Anybody with a brain and a memory knows Harris was not the border czar. She was handed a piece of the border puzzle.....the piece a long way from the border itself.

Then she went on to point out the major challenges for the Harris campaign vis-a-vis Joe Biden completely ignoring that the major problem the electorate had with Joe Biden WAS HIS AGE. Get a new job SE. You are not good at this one and IMO never have been which is why you are at CNN.

It won't .This has been discussed so many times , fact is the lie works for them the truth doesn't and so they choose to believe the lies. It's like Biden suppressing oil drilling when in fact oil production has never been higher including under Trump. Matters not how any times you show them the facts...they choose the lie.
 
Whether VP Kamala Harris was named "Border Czar" or Point Person on the immigration issue or tasked with looking into the "root causes" of immigration. She failed miserably. Over and over people asked the question, "what is she doing".
Clearly she did little to nothing in that roll.

There ya' go....was that hard? That is what she was tasked with.

I don't think she did particularly well in that role either as she had no staff to speak of at the time....BUT:
- she was not border czar
- she was not point person on Immigration
- she was not the "unofficial border czar" which is a new one I heard just this morning by the utterly useless national press corp
None of that excuses the GOP for cutting the legs out from under the best border and immigration bill that they were ever going to get in the Senate Supplemental which was the toughest border bill they were ever going to get AND not passing any Immigration legislation ins 2018 when they had four bills make it to the floor and could not pass any of them. The bill that Trump supported was so bad that in a GOP Senate it tallied 60 votes against instead of the 60 votes it would have needed to pass.

The GOP has NOTHING. It just wants to howl at the moon over immigration and border security.
 
Biden never called her the border czar. It's not a thing. That's different from how the border has been handled though. Which isn't great
 
She was slated by the administration to take care of it, to me that is being in control of the task, and she is culpable for the failure.

regardless of what she was called, she failed at the border task she was given. Revisionism will not change this.

If every conservative in America were replaced by an illegal immigrant, the country would be far safer, and democracy would be in far better shape. Just putting that out there.
 


What specific things could Harris have done, on her own, to "take care of" border security? She can't pass legislation, she can't write EOs. What would you have done?
