Julian Assange a force for freedom of speech

You are just another American who believe the USA has the right to rule the world. Insular and ignorant in equal measure. As it happens I am not an "America hater" but comments such as yours can only encourage such sentiments.
Tripe.

My post discussed Assange and Putin as a matter of law and self defense. And of the obligations and duty of the USG to protect its people against all enemies foreign and domestic.

Yet all your posts do is to get more dug in on the side of Assange and Putin. So I am certain you and I are at an irresolvable impasse.

It is amusing that you think that someone who "is signing his own death warrant" is also a "coward".
Assange was aware that he would not face the death penalty in the U.S. It has been noted in earlier discussions that he could not be prosecuted for treason as he is not a U.S. citizen. Additionally, there have been instances of former CIA and FBI agents who have betrayed the U.S. by selling information to Russia sitting in prison and not on death row. Like I said, his whining about it was a red herring.

But he is not sitting in prison. ;)

But he is not sitting in prison. ;)
Staying like the coward he is by seeking asylum and living like scum in foreign embassies to avoid prosecution for years was almost as good as serving time in Club Fed. It kept him away from doing any more damage.

Assange's Hell began in 2010 in Sweden where he was under investigation for rape. When Assange fled Sweden to the UK Sweden issued an International Arrest Warrant for Assange who surrendered to UK authorities and was granted bail. When a UK court ordered Assange extradited to Sweden Assange was taken in by the Russia friendly Ecuadorian Embassy and was granted political asylum.

During Assange's 7 years living in an Ecuadorian Embassy cubbyhole London police staked out the embassy to arrest him if he stepped out. UK MI5 and MI6 with the CIA monitored his internet activity and phone calls thereby making them ineffective to recipients. By 2018 Ecuador authorities were tiring of the whole thing; lawyers for Assange filed in court for "basic rights" from embassy personnel; Wikileaks published about corruption by the president of Ecuador.

In 2019 and after a U.S. District Court filing that revealed an existing sealed indictment of Assange for espionage the President of Ecuador revoked asylum for Assange -- London police carried Assange kicking and screaming out of the embassy. The UK court put Assange in jail for skipping bail by having fled into the Ecuadorian embassy. Sweeden dropped its investigation of rape against Assange.

Also in 2019 the USG confirmed it had indicted Assange on 18 counts of espionage against the United States in connection with Wikileaks publication of a half million classified documents that harmed the US and numerous allied governments. In 2020 the USG filed additional criminal indictments against Assange.

For the past five years various UK courts have been hot or cold in reversing one another about extraditing Assange to the US. The most recent UK court ruling this year allowed Assange to enter yet another appeal against his extradition to the US. In this plea deal in U.S. District Court Assange admitted his guilt against the American people, was declared guilty by the court, got time served for the past 5 years in a UK prison and was required to return to Australia where the prime minister requested his return after the parliament had voted for it.

In Australia Assange's wife alone met with the media given Assange has become the broken down wreckage that he is. Over the past 15 years of its Hell Assange's miserable life has been destroyed. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

He endangered innocent lives while publishing alleged war crimes, involving deliberate attacks on civilians.

Who does that.

You should care about ALL civilians lives.

I think you are mistaken. Only the USA is so arrogant as to think that its laws apply to everyone in the world.
Well, the US and the EU (GDPR).

O

Obviously Assange doesn’t and didn’t. The guy is a sociopath.

You should care about everyone, the real issue with Assange is buried in the occasional good outcome of discussing a government's actions we ended up overwhelmed with release after release that seemed to place everyone in danger. Seemed intentional too. Whatever little good he did to generate discussion on what a nation should not be doing ended up lost in all of his other actions.

I consider him a terrible person for these reasons, and he sure is no voice for freedom of speech.

The same government that was exposed for lying, claimes lives of spys were exposed & killed. Can the now be trusted? I don't close my mind to either option, barring real evidence, i.e. more government secrets.

You’re not recognizing the whole problem. You seem focused on some government malfeasance and intelligence operations. His behavior affected multitudes of people other than what you like to point out. Raping a woman and then fleeing to avoid prosecution seems to have been lost by you. Outing civilians who provided assistance to US troops as interpreters isn’t on your radar either. The list goes on, so stop being so mono focused in defending this guy.

Your correct. he should have stood trial for the rape allegations. I believe the enemy knows who is doing interpreting.
