  • A federal judge in Boston paused nationwide the Trump administration's offer of buyouts to federal employees, less than 11 hours before the deadline for workers to accept the deal.
  • Judge George O'Toole Jr., said that his injunction pausing the plan would continue until at least a court hearing Monday, when he will consider arguments on the legality of the buyout.
  • More than 60,000 people — about 3% of the federal workforce — have accepted the offer, which is a key part of efforts by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk to reduce the size of the government.
Winning !!!!!!!!

I wonder what that means for the supposed 20k who already accepted?

It's 60K and I was wondering the same thing. Can those who accepted rescind their acceptance. We'll hear a lot more about this, I'm sure. I would imagine when the court makes a final decision, it that decision makes Trump's plan illegal, that would automatically get them their jobs back.

Damn it jumped, I think I just saw yesterday it was 20k.

DOGE is not going to be saving much money with all of the court costs.

Trump's press sexatary just made the dumbest comment related to this. She said they were glad the judge extended the timeframe in order to give more employees time to accept the offer.

This girl may be dumber than the last one.

For one thing, no way I'd trust this administration to fulfill the promise of salary or pension protection.

And this is a great way to induce more of that 'disgruntled employee' violence, of men 'going postal'. When people are very entrenched in rather dead-end bureaucratic jobs or ones that dont really have a lot of range in skills, some dont react well to being rejected (fired).

So we can look forward to internal violence from Arab/Muslim Americans and those here legally who were betrayed by false campaign promises, and now this. Will the "pause" end it? 40,000 already accepted.

Many things Trump says and does will wind up being back tracked and/or overturned in courts.

Just like during 1.0.

Anyone receiving these letters should consult an employment attorney and/or union representative.

They'll be back in court Monday to hear from both sides on this issue. I wouldn't trust Trump as far as could throw him. Judging from what he just did to the fired Coast Guard Chief, he's a rotten snake in the grass. He just evicted her with 3 hours' notice while she is still under lease from the CG with a 60-day grace period to get moved out.

If there's a hell, Trump will be spending a lot of time there.

Imagine accepting only to have it later taken away, leaving you with no recourse.

Education Department staff warned that Trump buyout offers could be canceled at any time

Top officials at the Education Department told staff members Wednesday that if they accept the Trump administration’s deferred resignation package, the education secretary may later cancel it and employees would not have any recourse, potentially leaving them without promised pay.

The Office of Personnel Management sent notices last week to federal employees that if they resign by Thursday, they could continue receiving pay and benefits until the end of September. The Trump administration hopes to get as much as 10% of the workforce to quit as part of a plan to shrink the federal bureaucracy.

But three Education Department officials told NBC News that Rachel Oglesby, the department’s new chief of staff, and Jacqueline Clay, its chief human capital officer, described significant caveats to the so-called Fork in the Road offer in an all-staff meeting held over Zoom on Wednesday. The officials did not want to be named for fear of retaliation.

The education secretary would be allowed to rescind the agreement, or the government could stop paying, and employees who took the deferred resignation package would waive all legal claims, the three officials said they were told in the meeting. The three employees say they have seen only sample resignation agreements so far and would need to agree to resign by Thursday evening before they could see the actual terms of their separations.

A 4 star admiral who even mango MAGAt magnet didnt accuse of any crime. Just petty spite. He's such a POS.

Oh I saw his reasons, but she did nothing wrong. Only following current policy. He's a petty POS but that's been clear since at least 2017. I'm sure people involved in his TV show and his business dealings would concur.
I’d argue he made that clear in his Casino days ripping off contractors, partners and investors blind.

There is precedence to do what Trump and his administration are doing. Bill Clinton did it.

She spins like some of the MAGA people on this forum.

From the bigger perspective, it appears that the Trump administration has shot its executive order wad in the first two weeks and the next stage may be about different court battles.

Well I implied that but I personally am not aware of the specifics since I didnt follow his business or even his TV show. I caught a few episodes in the beginning.

I havent heard this. Please provide the precedent?

Mark Burnett definitely played a huge role in the rehabilitation of Trumps image. I remember Trump blaming all his problems on his business partner that died in a plane crash. Another partner objected saying that was all untrue. Trumps response: what does he care, he’s dead. What a scumbag.

Let's face it, all those 50 plus EOs were all for show. A big two-week photo op to have everyone believe he's hard at work. While the reality is he probably never even read any of them. Stephen Miller is writing all this shit for him.

Clinton, unlike Trump, actually bothered to follow the Constitution and the law.

The 1994 buyout was legislation written by Congress, and signed by Clinton. It gave employees up to 5 years to take the buyout. It was not an EO that violates the 1972 Impoundment Act. It was not coupled with threats to illegally fire federal employees. It was not ideologically driven. It was not intended to cripple the federal government. So no, they're not the same.
