Josh Hawley Says Quiet Part Out Loud on Christian Nationalism (New Republic)

"At the fourth National Conservatism Conference, known as NatCon 4, Senator Josh Hawley saw fit to tell the audience exactly what he stands for—and it’s Christian nationalism.

“Some will say I’m calling America a Christian nation. And so I am. Some will say I’m advocating Christian nationalism. And so I do. My question is: Is there any other kind worth having?” Hawley said at the conference’s gala dinner Monday night."

While the truth is Senator Hawley has always been a narcissitic iconoclast fake populist seeking to be the successor to Trump, his behavior has always also been dangerous, to wit: his encouragement of the insurrection that he famously ran away from when the shit hit the fan. This is no different. He's playing with fascist fire and we'll all likely get burned.

"While all of this shows a politician seeking to say certain things for attention without much action, his words on Christian nationalism should be taken seriously because he’s a true believer. For one, his wife is also part of the Christian nationalism movement, working for the extremist legal group Alliance Defending Freedom. Hawley happens to be up for reelection in November, and he faces a strong challenge from populist Democrat and military veteran Lucas Kunce. Will voters swallow his Christian nationalism and give him a second term in the Senate, or give a more genuine politician a chance?"

Is Hawley's embrace of Christian nationalism the apex or nadir of the movement?

Missouri residents seem to be happy with the job Senator Hawley is doing.

Still, polls suggest Hawley is favored to win reelection against Kunce in Missouri, a state that has trended toward Republicans over the last few decades.
Emerson College released a new poll on Friday that found Hawley leading Kunce by 9 points.

The poll, which surveyed 1,000 Missouri voters from June 17 to 19, found that 47 percent of respondents were planning to back Hawley, while 38 percent said they would vote for Kunce in November. The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Is it the bi-coastal blue state echo chamber liberals and progressives crapping on the middle of the country, which is more normal and more well adjusted than they?
Yup.
So it must be a day who's name ends in a 'y'.

He's not at 50%.

I'm fully aware of the effort by fellow travelers to change the subject. It's about Hawley's open embrace of a violent, anti-constitutional movement. I guess he wasn't comfortable openly identifying as a fascist... yet.

This is a placeholder identification.
