Austria’s triathletes Sara Vilic and Tanja Strohschneider experienced bad moments before a continental cup race in Jordan. The duo was, according to a report by the Crown newspaper insulted, threatened and even stoned by up to 30 boys during training in Aqaba in a quieter harbor basin next to a public beach resort.
Vilic, who was at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeira, recounted the incident: “Suddenly ten guys were there and insulted us. A few of us were already changing clothes – we noticed that they didn’t like it: women in bathing suits and so. While you didn’t notice any of the cultural differences in the resort itself, it was very different outside.”
