I'm lost. Give me a clue... Why on earth would you think anything Trump says remotely resembles the truth?Trump just announced a very weird trade deal with Japan.
What Japanese company would invest in the US in an environment where they have to hand over 90% of their profits to the US government? How is this not socialism?
If the details are accurate the Japanese PM should resign.

So he negotiated tariffs from 2% to 15%, a cost to be borne by American consumers."President Donald Trump said Tuesday on Truth Social that his administration had reached a deal with Japan, one of the largest U.S. trading partners, to lower its tariff rate to 15% as part of a sweeping trade agreement.
That rate is lower than the 24% that Trump threatened Japan with on April 2 and the 25% he said he would hit Japanese imports with in a letter on July 7. Before Trump’s current term, the effective U.S. tariff rate on Japanese imports was less than 2%, according to World Bank data."

Trump sets 15% tariff on Japanese imports as part of investment agreement
15% would be less than the tariff rate Trump previously threatened to impose on Japan, a key U.S. ally.www.nbcnews.com
You are assuming American consumers will be buying the more expensive products. So he negotiated tariffs from 2% to 15%, a cost to be borne by American consumers.
This is economic madness.

Tell Mycroft.JAPAN. DOESN'T. PAY. THE. TARIFFS.
Jesus H Christ......
Mycroft has been told 1000000 times and refuses to listen.Tell Mycroft.
If Japan auto companies ship autos to the US, consumers won't buy them because they are too expensive. They'll buy from other companies. Japan's only alternative is to build the autos in the US, sell them with zero tariff and then turn over part of their profit to the US government or to reduce their prices. That's the agreement.Tell Mycroft.

Evidently, Japan thinks it's better to make SOME profit than to not sell any cars.
Of course, they are...but they have a powerful incentive to change where they get their raw materials, parts and assemblies from. You think American automakers aren’t paying tariffs?
You are correct. That's a lost cause.![]()
Seems like Trump has a 10% tariff baseline that he wants on all imports as a means to raise revenue for the federal government. Thats not a bad thing and it will help with the deficit, but I dont think its high enough to bring much manufacturing back to the US."President Donald Trump said Tuesday on Truth Social that his administration had reached a deal with Japan, one of the largest U.S. trading partners, to lower its tariff rate to 15% as part of a sweeping trade agreement.
