This story is being reported in many news outlets. However only one outlet I saw reported the push back AOC got.

But political commentators and journalists did not take kindly to Ocasio-Cortez advising Japan on how to conduct its affairs.

Political commentator Ian Miles Cheong summed up the congresswoman’s visit in a tweet: "AOC is currently in Japan demanding that their government embrace LGBTQ alphabet wokeness, or else."

"Japan’s internal affairs are none of AOC’s business," journalist Sameera Khan fired back, sharing headlines from Time and Bloomberg News on the controversial trip.

One user agreed, advising that Ocasio-Cortez to stick to American politics: "[K]ind of a far out concept, but how bout we focus on America."

This sort of talk happens all the time. How many foreign lawmakers and other VIPs criticize US policies? How often does that happen?

Answer: every day

She heard homophobic remarks from Japanese government officials and called them out over it (aw.....poor baby....American woman called you out? Poor thing.)

She mentioned that Japan is alone among the G-7 in not having "...marriage equality and LGBT anti-discrimination equality protections in place..." (An accurate comparison to peer countries! How objectionable!)

Yawn.

Looks like AOC is saying the same thing as a Japanese court, recently, and it is a topic of discussion in the current Japanese government, with some support for AOC's position:

A Tokyo court upheld a ban on same-sex marriage on Wednesday but said a lack of legal protection for same-sex families violated their human rights, a comment welcomed by plaintiffs as a step towards aligning Japan with other G7 nations.

Japan is the only G7 nation that does not allow same-sex marriage, and its constitution defines marriage as based on the mutual consent of both sexes.

Although Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's ruling party has revealed no plans yet to review the matter or propose changes, several senior members support same-sex marriage.

Japan is extremely homophobic. AOC is right to criticize them.

Japan is relatively progressive in their view of homosexuality.
It is not illegal, and there are gay areas and a gay pride parade etc.

But they are more conservative as a society compared to the USA. You wont see same sex or heterosexual couples sucking face in public.
Probably as it should be. And I'm sure they'd laugh if you said that chix with dix be permitted into the ladies locker rooms. Well they wouldn't laugh they'd throw you into prison or a psychiatric ward maybe.

AOC is right on as usual, and the right is wrong and fighting for bigotry as usual.

This 'don't talk about our internal affairs' is the standard line of tyrannical regimes, good to see it being used for Japan. It's what regmes from China to Saudi Arabia say, and they're happy to oblige each other. 'Oh, genocide against Uyghurs? No problem.' 'Oh, wrong war on Yemen? No problem.'

Go figure the white supremacist cheerleading authoritarian conservatism.

You should head on over and help get Japan all straightened out to your liking.
Be sure to write and let us know how its going!! 🙋‍♂️

I guess AOC won't be Prime Minister of Japan anytime soon.
The country with leaders who can't define woman should be insisting others become just as confused as they are.

What's weird is that, in the context of anime, Japan is very inclusive at least so far as gender-bending stuff.

If Fox N*ws didn't publish people complaining about their political opponents, would they exist at all?

Its endless triggering over there.
The only thing they did different from other news sources was reporting the feed back from a Japanese official.
There's a lot to be triggered about...

Yea, eventually we will get the conservatives to understand that gender is fluid.

The left likes to screech about colonization, and cultural erasure, but they are the biggest pushers of cultural colonization out there.

The guide suggests changing the term “mother” to “gestational” or “birthing parent” and using “non-gestational” or “non-birthing parent” instead of “father”.

Good idea?

It is truly pathetic that you think the article is worth more than a gnat fart in a hurricane. Fox presses a button and you gotta dance.

I don't have a problem with it.

Yeah, wanting people to have equal rights is definitely “cultural colonization”.

Libertarians definitely love governments denying people equal rights.

Mindless parroting of right-wing propaganda. The people who are too ignorant to know how gender identity works and too bigoted to be willing to learn shouldn't be influencing any policy.
