Well, I've been around closing on 7 decades.

I can recall this same area being called the Rio de Janeiro of the Middle East.

Seems to me that after it was occupied by Hamas and I forget the name of the other Moslem group is when it began to suffer thanks to the Moslem warfare and using the citizens as unwilling human shields.
