The definitioon of an autocrat is one who has complete control. Does Ron DeSantis presently have complete conrol of the government of Florida? I would answer YES. You could say he has to answer to his legisslature, but not really, they just do as he says. I remind you that Russia, China and even NK have a "legislaative" body, but they all do as their respective leaders' says or pay the price. DeSanis has shown that if you cross him, even in private bussiness, you pay the price as Disney World is going through right now. So I say Ron Desntis is an autocrat.

I'd be more concerned about the guy trying to unilaterally spend $400,000,000,000 on student loans.

Yes, he is getting there Telling cruise ships what they can and cannot do and retaliating against Disney are autocratic moves

Hmm, "spend money to help people" vs. "literally make the other party illegal." Yeah which one sounds more autocratic I totally can't tell.

"to help people" - bless your little heart.

I see you've never struggled to balance paying rent and paying student loans. Must be nice to be that privileged.

There's a deferment plan for that.

Apparently from your writing there is a question about your heart.
Yes, we should all be looking after the people whose money you're trying to steal because you were irresponsible with student loans.

lol "taxation is theft" people are hilarious.

I don't know what else you call a wanna-be despot subverting the will of Congress to take money from people.

He is remaking Florida colleges in his own image.

He's actually relying on a bill passed by Congress.

But that's another thread.

Now that was a very stupid message. I would guess you never had to scrimp to get to college, or you would not write something so stupid. And whose money are you talking about, if it is my money, I am fine with it as are 62% of Americans. Maybe we should change the tax laws and just tax all income, including from stocks, at the same rate as those of wages, nd that would give us more than enough to ppay for this. Steal money, what bullshit. If it was up to many people in this country, they woulld not have the wealthy pay taxes at all. That is just for the "little" peoople in thier minds.

Really? Let me know which happens first, one guy spending the amount of money you are claiming or one man being the head of every committee in the state whose members he himself installed? Sooner or later the courts are going to start challenging his decisions. Checking girls menstrual cycles for high school sports? Talk about the government overstepping its reach. Telling businesses what they can and can't do. Telling schools which books are 'acceptable'. Refusing to teach some horrible things about our history so white kids don't get upset.

And now one of our state senators wants to ban the democratic party in flori-duh.....and you are worried about money.

I'm going with A. Those dang liberal socialists have a lot of balls trying to help me here in mississippi. Yankee go home, we don't need your help.

Why? YOu do know that isn't money that has to be "spent" don't you? It's basically just a paper write down.

Here's an idea, let's end corporate welfare. No more subsidies to energy, no more subsidies to farmers, no more subsidies to any business. Free markets, succeed or fail on your own, no subsidies.

Isn't that what we tell each other, the free market bullshit, let's actually do it and see what happens.

To the delight of the educationally challenged Republican base who cannot fathom the deceit, Ron Desantis appears to be a right-wing autocrat as he consistently speaks about freedom while depriving Floridians of their freedoms. Indeed, his new book is entitled The Courage to Be Free. DeSantis is hoping that grassroots Republicans can't see the subterfuge, and, so far, it is working.

While constantly speaking disingenuously about the will to be free, he avoids talking about what he is doing. What he is doing in Florida is expanding government control over education, schools, libraries, women's health, books, Disney, and other corporations.

"Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and state legislative leaders announced a sweeping new bill to curb the politicization of corporations. If passed into law, the legislation would have the most far-reaching restrictions against corporations established to date," Fox News.

AP reports, "Ron DeSantis signed a bill that gives him control of Walt Disney World's self-governing district, punishing the company over its opposition to the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law."

CNN reports, "Dozens of parents, students, and alumni spoke out against Florida’s conservative takeover of New College of Florida in Sarasota. DeSantis replaced six of the 13 members on the college’s board of trustees with conservative allies, including Christopher Rufo, who has fueled the fight against critical race theory. The new board forced out the college’s president and appointed DeSantis ally Richard Corcoran as interim president.

There are many more examples of autocracy inspired by DeSantis.

Is this what Floridians want?

Is this what the American people want?

Nope. I put myself through college. Worked full time while in school.

Wish I had a dollar for every time a left winger on this forum claimed the world was going to end because of what a single state house or senate representative said.
