The problem is often Texans, who think that if people don't understand Texan, the way to get across is to just speak it louder. Back in the 80s and 90s, I did a fair amount of motorcycle touring in the Mexican countryside, where the average person speaks no more English than I speak Spanish (Muy Poquito). I carried a Spanish English dictionary and a very primitive electronic translator, but they could see I was trying. They were extremely gracious and didn't even make fun of me. Had a great time.
 
Once in a quiet non-touristy pub in Galway we were sitting at the bar having a pint and chatting with the bartender and a local. It was nice. Suddenly a guy and his wife walked in. The guy was wearing a red, white and blue jacket and talked LOUD and immediately started telling the barman how they do whatever in Texas.

Feckin hell! My wife and I were embarrassed and immediately said goodbye to the barman and the local guy as we got out before the Texan tried to make conversation with us.

We hate that crap. It’s embarrassing, the ugly American attitude remains in too many places.
