Is America really being "raped" on trade ?

Australia has VAT (GST) of 10%. The UK has VAT of 20%. Many in the US don’t like those regressive (unfair?) consumption taxes, yet seem fine with other countries having them.
Why is VAT a factor ? It applies to all goods not ust imported goods. All countries raise taxes from somewhere. It seems fair enough.

The tariffs would have to be permanent to influence corps to relocate. Otherwise its not worth the bother. But trump is too erratic to be relied on /

Many are complaining about having (more) US tariffs because they are regressive (flat rate taxes which apply to all).

I dont understand. VAT applies to all. Tariffs apply to imports. You have lost me.

Under Trump, America is the rapist accusing the world of seducing it.

The reason for much of that is, that many asian countries do not have the same labor and environmental protections.

Meh, not really.

Has a lot more to do with corporate greed and union laziness.

Here's the thing. I work in purchasing, switching back between distribution and manufacturing. When I've worked in Manufacturing, most of the people I see on the factory floor are immigrants. One place I worked, management identified 19 languages being spoken in the plant. I joked if we got an applicant named Maria Patel, they should hire her because half our employees were named Maria and the other half were named Patel.

Even if we are this is the wrong way to respond to it.
You could actually attack the fact that Trump is doing nothing more than extortion but I don't think you'll do it.

And maybe a bunch of you Trump supporters would fit right in to those big cities like Chicago and those big city crimes like in Chicago because you're all supporting extortion.

I'll let someone else explain it to you. Maybe you'll gain a better understanding.

You might want to call Lutnick a liar. That's your choice.

Or an idiotic asshole propagandist rich prick Trump sycophant. Lutnick isn’t explaining anything, he is covering Trump’s large ass very poorly.

Yes, Trump is acting like a mob boss in a reality TV show. A very incompetent and clownish mob boss. One who is being used by dangerous ideological extremists who write the script for him.

Tariffs are taxes which apply to all buyers (regardless of income), thus they are considered to be regressive.
But vat is not a tariff. Its a tax applied on a sliding percentage scale.

It’s a tax on consumption - like a tariff, excise or sales tax is. Those with lower incomes tend to spend (consume) more of their incomes, thus consumption taxes are called regressive.

Everytime I read a statement like this I don't think the person involved realizes they have just defended trickle down economics.

The interview segment is interesting. As an investor, I've seen the disclosure 'Past performance is no guarantee of future results' countless times over the years.

It's crucial to bring up this investor warning because the sales pitch/game plan will likely follow a pattern seen in Trump's past business dealings: if successful, he'll claim full credit, touting his 'stable genius' foresight. If unsuccessful—the more likely outcome—he'll deflect blame onto others, while minimizing any personal financial loss, a pattern evident in his long history of business bankruptcies.

Simply put, Trump's history of mismanagement and failed business ventures raises serious concerns that he could run the USA into the ground, just as he did with his casino and airline businesses.

Far from it. Im suggesting international relations are conducted by competent people who have a certain level of education. And decency.

I rather think trump is confusing tariffs with trade imbalances. The US is the richest country in the world so of course it will run deficits with poorer countries.

It seems like trump wants the poor countries to subsidise Americas standard of living.

You are saying of course the rich are going to buy more than the poor but when they do that money trickles down to the poor.

You just rationalized trickle down economics.

Exactly, and we're already seeing inconsistency in what the desired outcome is. Are they to end "unfairness", or bring back manufacturing? That was a long list, and we have no clue what goal was expected for each nation on that list to know what "success" is. Based on the claims of "Victory!" it appears the only consistent goal is that nations communicate a willingness to negotiate, but I suspect that would have happened had he approached this without tariff threats and market chaos.

Not much trickles down. Trickle down is a failed system that was devised to bolster the oligarch class.

Quiet meetings dont generate the attention that trump craves. Or his supplicants enjoy.

Not much trickles down. Trickle down is a failed system that was devised to bolster the oligarch class.

So then the point is to not defend the current trade system.

That “failed system”, of having continuous annual federal deficit (stimulus?) spending, has resulted in a re-election rate of over 90% for congress critters.

Whose point ? Ive no idea what trumps point is. I doubt that even he does.

If the current trade system is exploitative shouldn't it be ended and not defended?
