TEHRAN — A new United States visa restriction that applies to Europeans and others who have visited so-called high-risk countries has led to angry reactions in Iran, where some leaders say the decision is a violation of the nuclear agreement reached in July.
Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran’s foreign minister, told state media on Monday that the visa restriction was an “obstacle, placed by some individuals,” that he hoped would soon be resolved. Mr. Zarif referred to a letter sent by Secretary of State John Kerry on Saturday, asserting that the restriction would not affect the nuclear agreement.
The restriction, a security step arising from the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, Calif., prohibits visa-free travel to the United States for anyone who has visited or holds citizenship in Syria, Iraq, Sudan and Iran.
Precisely why Iran was included on the list is unclear, since it is a foe of the Islamic State, the militant extremist group accused of organizing or fomenting the attacks.

Kinda confused why Iran was put on this list since they are fighting the Islamic State....But I hope both parties can work through this, I dont see this derailing the P5+1 deal though.
I would predict that the justification for including Iran has nothing to do with Daesh and everything to do with Republican politicians, already critical of the Iranian deal, looking to add a feather to their cap when they talk to constituents.
It is also possible that the language was agreed upon by some of the democratic leadership as a way to ensure passage.

Iran has been the source of sponsorship of terrorism in many places in the world is probably why. They have been suppliers to Hamas and Hezbollah, they have been involved in sponsored terrorism in India, Bahrain, Kenya and other places. Also they are believed to have been involved in cyberterrorist activities, per our current administration.

And somehow that makes some think that this means they're the West's ally.
Iran remains the no.1 state sponsor of terrorism on the planet and one of the major sources of unrest in the Middle East due to its current involvement in the matters of 4 different countries.
As such its fight with ISIS is a fight between two sides of the same kind of evil - radical Islam.
I would have thought the list was based on the countries that the IS control areas are in or close to largely open borders of. I suspect it would be relatively easy to fly in to Iran and travel to the IS area before returning via a similar route. I don’t think it’s entirely unreasonable not to permit visa-free travel on that basis.Kinda confused why Iran was put on this list since they are fighting the Islamic State....But I hope both parties can work through this, I dont see this derailing the P5+1 deal though.

Who cares why they're fighting ISIS? That like saying the only reason why you engage in self defense is because you want to live.
That doesn't really address what I'm pointing out: someone criticizing Iran because "the only reason they're fighting ISIS is because ISIS wants to kill it's citizens and destroy their country".If only that was the only thing Iran was involved in. Unfortunately, it's not. They regularly support numerous terror factions, most recently the Taliban, Hamas and Hezbollah. Since we've very recently seen protests against the US and other Western nations in Iran, complete with "death to America" chants, it's a safe bet we ought not be handing out Visas like candy.

Ummm, didn't Iran initiate a hit on US soil to murder some Saudi diplomat?

Like WTF guys? If that isn't enough to get a country permanently on a "do not enter" list or a "investigate the **** out of anyone coming from over there" list, I don't know what is.
Yes, at least they have been accused of attempting the assassination. Sadly, political assassinations are still with us, as they are a good way to get rid of folks we don't like. If they're successful, the countries accused, like the US and Israel in the assassination of Masoud Ali Mohammadi, quickly deny involvement. Sometimes, it's more difficult to deny involvement. Like the 8 times we tried (unsuccessfully) to get rid of Castro. LOL
Bottom line, many nations take part in this insidious activity.
The reason we need to kick Iran to the curb is because they've shown time and again that they are our enemies, and that they cannot be trusted.
