Hi, my first post here. Hopefully this is forum that can help me.
I'm slightly new to politics (I got interested back in December 2008).
I find everything with politics fascinating. But I have a hard time with new words/terms and remembering them. I was wondering if there is a book out that could help me? Kind of like a text book.

Thanks in advanced!

Dictionary.com -- Go to thesarus for similar words in order to familarize yourself with a word or phrase

Representative Waxman is coming out with a book about politics, but is not about discussing politics at this kind of level. If your just looking to find the meanings of some terms and words and such, then dictionary will fulfill that need. If your looking to do some basic research of a subject, just google it and wikipedia it. If your looking to being up to date on news, then you can read the paper, set yahoo as your homepage and look at headline articles, just use some online interfaces like Huffington or such, or read bloggers... most blogs are dumb

Pretty good description of what Politics is

Only watch Fox with a skeptical eye. Don't know what else your really asking for so, that's it.

I don't know what else to say

I think basically what i'm looking for is my high school Government text book, It had everything, I just didn't care for it back then.

As for Fox. I understand its slightly conservative, but it still has to maintain a good portion of liberalism.

Fox is slightly Gossip disguised as News, do yourself a favour and stop watching it.

I'll just add I really only watch Glenn Beck, I can't stand Bill O'reily or Ann Coulter. I don't watch anybody else.

:lol:Ummm Glen Beck is probably the worst of them all, Ann Coulter is actually quiet intelligent.

Yes, but she looks like my ex-girlfriends mother  :rofl

Glenn Beck makes sense to me right now, I take everything political with a grain of salt.

You could go to your nearest university and see which textbooks they are using for their intro to political science classes and see if you can pick up a used copy of it for cheap. It would also help to actually sit down and read the Constitution. Seems like not many people do that anymore. [ame="http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/Ftrials/conlaw/home.html"]In lieu of that, this is a good webpage.[/ame] It is the actual curriculum of a law school constitutional law class.

I would stay away from any books by people who have radio or television programs or are opinion columnists for the time being. That can come later after you have built your foundation of political knowledge.

High school text books are a poor choice to learn about politics as they can be loaded with half truths and biased information.

I suggest you start with the founding documents of our nation and then work your way through the Federalist papers and Anti-Federalist papers.
That would be an important start to get a historical idea of our politics.

Politics is nothing more than the physical manifestations of law. This book will familiarize you in the basics of governance:

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-American-Law-Alan-Morrison/dp/0198764057/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247085982&sr=8-1]Amazon.com: Fundamentals of American Law: Alan B. Morrison, Justice William J. Brennan Jr: Books[/ame]

It's written by numerous law professors and experts associated with the New York Univeristy School of Law. It covers the history of common law, its application within our system, and explains the manner and purpose of government and law. It will provide you with the kind of comprehensive analysis you desire.

Thank you all, I believe while I'm signing up for classes tonight will sign up for a macroeconomics class and Government class.

Sorry I have to bring this up, it has been on my mind. So if Fox is "Gossip" news, what exactly is CNN? And is there a real reliable source? Something that isn't strictly liberal.

To find good news, you have to filter the crap out.

Using online resources like Google news, yahoo news, online Wall Street Journal and The Hill online (The Hill is an excellent news source).

Beck's a good place to start I suppose. I get a little annoyed wiith him sometimes for pointing out huge scandals involving the Dems, and then piously announces that people have to stop identifying with one part or the other.

I am sorry I should have clarified CNN, MSNBC, and others are in the same boat. This is an epidemic and not limited to a particular idealogy. It is a way to divide the people, to confuse the people, and to control the people.
