There is a very real probability that the badly screwed up 'ownership' of water in the US is going to create massive future issues as the once abundant aquifers reach depletion, and can no longer support the excessive use and waste that has been created by poorly managed water usage. There are already some awful stories about how people have been impacted by a crazy lack of water management. The next 20 year drought, like the one that recently ended, will have far worse ramifications than the last one did.
