Consumer inflation moderated in January, yet remained higher than many economists had expected, driven by rising prices for housing, gasoline and natural gas.

The good news: The inflation rate continues to drop

The bad news: It's still stubbornly high

I'll still call "moving in the right direction" a win.

Fifties are the new twenties, and I still remember when I bought my first candy bar for five cents. It took me some time to save five more for my second, and when I finally did, candy bars cost ten.

While we in the MAGAsphere will rue our loss of the inflation cudgel to repeatedly bash Biden, all good things must end; in the meantime, inflation, even in its dying days, will remain useful.

MAGA.

I concur, but this likely means more interest hikes coming sooner than later...
The Fed imo needs to move more aggressively. Hopefully 50 basis points this month. The prices are never going to come down, just the rate of increase may be slower. For people on a fixed income the faster inflation is tamed the better.

2% is useful
6%, not so much

Inflation is a tough problem. Too little effort, inflation sticks around. Too much, recession...

False.

Inflation ROSE in January. Commerce Department showed that consumer prices rose 0.6% from December to January,

I'm pretty sure Mycroft will not agree, and even Sherlock admired his elder brother's superior deductive reasoning:

“He has the tidiest and most orderly brain, with the greatest capacity for storing facts, of any man living. The same great powers which I have turned to the detection of crime he has used for this particular business. The conclusions of every department are passed to him, and he is the central exchange, the clearinghouse, which makes out the balance. All other men are specialists, but his specialism is omniscience. We will suppose that a minister needs information as to a point which involves the Navy, India, Canada and the bimetallic question; he could get his separate advices from various departments upon each, but only Mycroft can focus them all, and say offhand how each factor would affect the other. They began by using him as a short-cut, a convenience; now he has made himself an essential. In that great brain of his everything is pigeon-holed and can be handed out in an instant.”

In short, Mycroft is a generational intellect capable of being favorably compared to even the Great Trump.

You have the wrong Mycroft.

See "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress".

Though, in an oblique sense, you are correct.

It was a compliment, and I loved that book when I read it in my teens.

I don't think you understood my point and I said nothing about "transitory".

To this contrary, the current US inflation is deliberate and it won't be resolved until the Biden pukes...or their next iteration...are out of office.

Yet the graph you posted proves inflation has a transitory nature, and I find it hard to believe a person with the exalted name Mycroft would miss that, though in truth I was responding to someone else who claimed inflation is not transitory and simply used your excellent graph as an example.

So, assuming the Biden pukes <bp spits on the floor> deliberately provoked the inflationary rise for some unknown and nefarious reason, that would further prove that inflation is transitory, though, once again, I will point out that my beef about inflation being or not being transitory is not with you, specifically.

Gosh…I guess the MAGATS are next going to blame the inflation that exists worldwide on their President.
Joe Biden is YOUR duly elected President. He trounced the jackass. It wasn’t even close.
Get use to it and stop whining.

Well yeah, prices won't come down. We don't want them to come down! High inflation is a problem, but deflation is literally catastrophic. We need inflation for a functioning economy.

False.

Inflation ROSE in January. Commerce Department showed that consumer prices rose 0.6% from December to January,

"Rate" was implied there, as it commonly is.

There's no question that we have exacerbated inflation in other countries.
